Oil Stabilizers vs gear oil?

Just thinking, would it be of any benefit to use a quart of gear oil as an oil thickener versus using something like Lucas in an old beater or an oil burning engine?

No gear oils have high S Phos and when coked up at enngine temps will corrode the bearings not a good idea.

I would have to agree with bruce. Gear oil should not be used as a engine oil additive. If you want thicker oil, buy thicker oil.

Definitely don't put gear oil in the crankcase.

did it in a coupla heaps when I was a kid. 53 Ford with a flathead 8 and solid lifters it did ok. In a 55 Chebbie 6 with hydraulic lifters, it collapsed the lifters. This is by no means an endorsement however.
