The sun just set in Barrow, Alaska and now won’t rise again until January 22, 2026.

Right after college, my wife went to live with her sister in Anchorage and worked on the Alaskan Railroad as a waitress. She says one the most difficult things to wrap her head around during summer months was coming out of a bar at 3AM and it's bright sunshine. All the time. Talk about messing with your circadian rhythm.

I would love to experience that just once.
After experiencing the midnight Sun in Scandinavia, I urge you to do so. One cool feature is that the Sun circles above your head. It doesn't "arc across the sky".
I'm sure it would totally mess with my internal clock
Maybe a little. People get upon time and stick to a schedule during Winter and use thick, green window shades during Summer.
it would ruin me mentally
How would you tell the difference?

Ha-ha

After visiting London last December, I'd go bonkers in Barrow. It wasn't really light until 9am and dark by 4pm. Conversely, I love going in early September. Peak tourist season is over, but it's light before 6am and not dark until after 9pm. I feel like I get my money's worth out of the day.

My company's based in London. Mental health, especially during winter, is a high priority.

That's a double whammy. Sun shining or not, if you stay out until three AM your circadian rhythm is going to be messed up.

I visited Clingmans Dome N.C. several miles North of Cherokee, N.C. in the Smoky Mountain National Park a couple of months ago. The name has been changed to Kuwohi which is from the ancient Eastern band of the Cherokee nation. Thomas Clingman was a Brigadier General in the Confederate Army and never set foot on the mountain. Wiki calls it “ name repatriation “ which I’m OK with.
