The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Does It Again.

Right and I bet you are right about THE BAND (I own about everything they ever released) + video. I have to watch The Last Waltz every few months or if feeling down / blue. LMAO - good thing the wife of 45+ years works in the day time. Lots of music I have to enjoy with her out of the house. She can't handle most of THE BAND's stuff. "how can you keep listening to that dreadful OLD PEOPLE music!?" Yet she is 64 , just a bit younger than me. Those Canadians always put an instant smile on my face. That R&R HOF is a sad excuse for what it claims to be. I wonder if Jeff Skunk Baxter is even in there as a founding member of Steely Dan to his run with Doobie Brothers who? By the way are they even in it?
P.S. we actually were lucky to see BTO about 8 or 9 years ago at a local casino. Those old timers could still blow the place apart! What a great time that was. YES.... no Guess Who / Steppenwolf is absured!
Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers are both in and they both deserve to be there.
BTW, when you saw BTO was Randy Bachman with them?

I am pretty sure he was. I think they all were back for the 2009 and on reunion I read went on for many years after that. Still awesome at that time.

A lot of dated bubblegum rock pop. Just because it had big radio play don't make it good. Got no legs to stand on.

A big YES for : Eurythmics - Doing great stuff in the early 80s. Annie Lennox killer vocals and Dave Stewart production and arrangement. Yes Sweet dreams - the song is over played and I dont love it at all, but this is an album with good stuff all over it.

DEVO is fun and really on a comeback. famous? yes. Hall of Fame? Not so sure - though I personally enjoy them in small bits.

NYD. the lead singer David J. is the only member alive. I was not into them at the time but I'll have to check them out, not so sure about this.
rock press loves to be edgy but "glam garage band" comes to mind and that is the extent of it.

I don't understand the Pop singers and C&W on the list of invokees. I don't listen to rap and I don't HATE rap - but its outta place too.

Now Carly Simon. Pop singer. A cross between Carole King and Karen Carpenter. Haven't heard from her in ages, except for the insanely overplayed "You're So Vain"

But do you recall this, one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs:

I miss the early years of the R&R HOF when a Mike Love would stand there on stage and take cheap shots at his fellow inductees...

I'm not sure why people get being out of shape over the Hall. It's basically a meaningless club that's nice to be a member of. People who are in it are like, 'Cool, thanks' and those not in it are like 'Whatever'. It carries no weight. It's a nice that it exists but not one musician on the planet is judging their own life's work on weather or not they are inducted.

I do watch the show and enjoy it but it has gotten too far away from its roots. LL Cool J's performance last year was a like a mini Super Bowl halftime show, and not in a good way.

  • A Tribe Called Quest
  • Pat Benatar
  • Duran Duran
  • Eurythmics
  • Dolly Parton
  • Lionel Richie
  • Carly Simon
  • Dionne Warwick
My choices from that list. Not that i don't think the others deserve it, i just don't listen to their music.

Clap For the Wolfman did 'em in.

It undid what they did with Undone

.. and No Time

j.k. - Ken
But, American Woman was a number one hit song and top 10 album in 1970, arguably the peak year for Rock and Roll music. Maybe it was this song that did 'em in.

Carly Simon should have been inducted years ago . Thin Lizzy wasn't inducted 2020 . No , Styx , Kansas , Bad Company , Free , Marshall Tucker and ............

I sure wish they would call themselves "Music Hall Of Fame" or something and leave out the Rock & Roll part.

Here's the list of nominees:

  • A Tribe Called Quest
  • Beck
  • Pat Benatar
  • Kate Bush
  • Devo
  • Duran Duran
  • Eminem
  • Eurythmics
  • Fela Kuti
  • Judas Priest
  • MC5
  • The New York Dolls
  • Dolly Parton
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Lionel Richie
  • Carly Simon
  • Dionne Warwick
Pop/Country-Pop has "crossed-over" to rock and roll. Mostly because of "top-40" radio of the past. Dolly Parton with "Here we go again, Jolene)" and even Glen Campbell who had several (too many to mention) "country songs" cross over to pop (Wichita Lineman among MANY OTHERS). Dionne Warwick had a whole slew of hits-and is probably more well-known (by those in a certain age group) than some others mentioned above. But yea-it's not exactly the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame due mostly to cross over hits.

IMO at a minimum, half of the Rock and Roll HOF members shouldn’t be in the “HOF! Though I love Dolly Parton, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Ritchie and many others of a different genre, they aren’t Rockers! Kinda like KISS being in the country music HOF!

I would agree with Carly Simon. But she was a Pop Artist and not a rock and roller. If you start breaking these down by music category you going to have many, many museums. Styx too had non-traditional rock songs. Saw them in concert-it was awesome!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was on my bucket list of places to visit. However I saw some of the names and bands that were inducted. Not rock and roll. The place is no longer on my list.
Wise choice .
