I bet one of the secrets to the longevity is the manual transmission. Not much to go wrong there. I wonder what's the highest mileage people have on their Rangers with an original automatic transmission?

Seen several over 200k...saw a livery Aerostar (same 3.0/A4LD) over 400,000 miles on one trans rebuild.

My mother has a 1994 Explorer (a Ranger with a slightly different body) and it has 205k miles. Its automatic transmission has never been rebuilt, and has only had a couple of fluid changes. It still shifts perfectly. My father bought it back in 1996 and it had about 20k miles on it at the time, so I know its whole history. Engine has never had any problems either, except for a small intake gasket leak, which I haven't bothered fixing. I just add a few ounces of coolant once a week.
