Since this forum is dedicated to the lubrication and longevity of our "rides" I thought it would be interesting to see who has the oldest roadworthy vehicle that was bought brand new by the current owner.

Cars, trucks or motorcycles that were bought by Grandpa in 1948 don't count. It has to be a vehicle that you bought new by you and kept till now.

I will start it off by submitting my 2002 Honda Civic that I bought in December of 2001 so that is just over ten years ago.

Which Bitoger has the oldest vehicle that he/she bought new??

We're still driving our 1993 Saturn SL2 5-speed that we ordered on 10-30-1992 and bought new on 11-14-1992 with less than 10 miles on the odometer.

Today it is a little more over 19 years old and currently with 196K miles on the odometer. The timing chain, clutch, starter, and other parts are still original.

1991 Toyota 4wd 5 speed truck. I have had NO repairs - I have replaced NOTHING other than wear items. This truck is used as a farm truck to haul ( though a tundra and a F350 are primary now)and I have busted several rear shocks due to overloading. Just last year I had to replace the orginal clutch and put seat covers on the orginal fabric! I'm almost 50 now and say this little truck will out last me!

1989 Olds original window sticker

I think alot of these older cars got destroyed by "Cash for clunker". Still have my 1989 Olds cutlass SL, first year w/3.1L.

Now broken-in the hwy miles are @ 32mpg+. Hardly see these earlier models anymore. Caddy bought used.

Of the nearly 20 cars I've bought, only one was ever new...

But I bought my 1990 Toyota in 1995 - still driving it, with 228K on it...

1995 Nissan King cab pickup truck,4 cylinder 5 speed xe. It still has the original clutch, and rear brake shoes, and the spare tire has never been out of the hanger. It has 150,000 miles and doesn't use any oil. I drove it to Gettysburg,Pa in June of 2011 to pickup a 1964 John Deere 110 garden tractor, an 800 mile round trip that took 16 hours, averaged 21 mpg and it ran like a top. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned!I bought it new in August of 1995. I told my wife when I bought it I would keep it ten years and then buy a new one, that was 17 years ago! I did have to replace the original battery 8 years ago so it's probably due for a new battery soon. Thanks,Gman

We bought the Tracker new. We might keep it for a couple more years or maybe not. No major repairs but its a bit small.
We also bought my 2001 Suzuki King Quad new. Not many miles on it as its just used mostly for work. I doubt we'll sell it ever, new quads are getting more complex than my cars and cost more too!

Your 1989 Olds is leading so far. Including a copy of the original window sticker is just way cool.

Drive on.

Bought one car new (2007 Dodge Magnum)...stupidest thing I have ever done. Loved the car, hated the paain in the wallet. Sold it last March, will never buy another new car.

cchase....you are in the lead at 30 years, you must have a lot of stories and maybe a few pictures?

Malo83....that is a sweet slammed Silverado. Does it have the original engine? Transmission? AT or stick? Tell us more.

There is a difference between buying a car that you know has good resale, and one that doesn't. That one DOESN'T. One of the main reasons I went Honda this time around. I think the domestic resale will improve over the next few years, but right now it is in the PITS.

I have posted this picture in the past with my new tires. This picture was taken, spur'a the moment! Bought this car brand new and it still looks this way. This was taken on Fathers Day 2010 after a car show that I had entered and won my particular class.

1980 Firebird FORMULA V-8 4BBL...I've had other cars that I bought new but, this is the one that my wife and I kept. Have a look!

Nothing to do with it: I will never buy another new car under any circumstances short of winning the lottery. Just not worth the money, expecially considering the gargantuan tax hit I took (over $1000/year in property taxes). The cost, the insurance, the registration fees, the huge tax hit, the expensive parts...never again. Stupidest thing I have ever done. The last year I had it, my most fervent hope was that someone would steal it & wrap it around a tree.
