..are making better looking cars than the Japanese. Hyundai and Kia have better looking cars than Honda and Toyota.

True, but considering the persistently dreadful styling of the Japanese marques, it's not really saying very much.

I love the looks of some of the stuff that Honda is making. The Civic Si and CRZ look excellent. I find it hard to fault the looks of the base Civic, Accord, IS, LS, and LF-A. The rest I could take or leave; at most I think "thanks, but no thanks." I can't think of a single Honda or Toyota vehicle that I would describe as "dreadful" looking.

Nissan, on the other hand, is another story. The QX makes me want to claw my eyes out.

IMO the Japanese makes (except for Mazda) have gotten quite ugly recently, especially honda/acura. the current lexus IS is horrible compared to the 1st gen.
but this could be the fault of Americans; most all makes have SoCal design studios.

Not only that but Hyundai quality in my opinion (except for my Hyundai with the v6 engine start up noise) is great...I almost never see them in my shop for engine rebuilds and my shop is very busy.. Maybe its the 10year 100,000 mile powertrain warrantee...

Then you missed my recent post showing the 2011 Odyssey hearse:

Agree. Korea is making great products. Only a matter of time before they surpass japanese.

But his is good for the consumers. More competition to build the best product at a better price.

Yeah, what's going on at Acura?

Other than adding a 6th gear to the MDX and a wagon variant (automatic 4 cyl only) to the TSX, they really haven't done anything.

They still have that dreadful guillotine blade grill. It's been around so long that my eyes are actually getting used to it. There have been no substantial upgrades in design or model changes anywhere.
It's as if they are saying, "We are so good at the Tier-II luxury level, we don't even need to try."

Mazda? I still haven't got past the goofy front fascia styling on them. And I like Mazda. I see the back of the 3 and I'm like, "Oh, that's quite nice." Then I see the front and it's like styled from the movie "Cars".

I think it looks fine. It's a minivan. How is it supposed to look?

If you chop it in front of the rear tire and dispose of the slot for the door to slide in and add some sheet metal below the tail light it would pass for ok.

My theory is that one of the designers got to the end of the rear sliding door and quit. Honda was in a real hurry to get the van to market, so they slapped the rear 1/4 panel from another drawing on and POOF! The 2011 Odyssey was alive!

The best part is the belt line doesn't even line up. The rear window is lower than the others!

The Korean and American cars are by far the nicest out right now. (And maybe a couple German cars)

I agree Hyundai is looking good. However Mazda by FAR makes the ugliest Japanese cars on the market, and has for many years. The Acura front ends on the MDX, RDX, TL are not appealing to me, but are light years better then the dopey smiley/clown face grills on all the current Mazda models.
