What would be the rationale for keeping both of them alive?

Not that I'd expect Castrol/BP to make rational decisions...

Not sure what you're referring to. Castrol 0w30 is still API SL rated, even after production has shifted to Belgium.

And Castrol 0w-40 is API SN rated because the 40-grades aren't subject to the same add pack restrictions as the 30-grades.

0w-30 is still SL. 0w-40 is still SN. People used to call 0w-40, BC. People used to call 0w-30, GC.

We now need to simply think of them as 0w30 and 0w-40 Castrol products since the country of origin has changed.

The 0w30 bottles at a local Pep Boyzz yesterday still said "Made In Germany", they looked new, the rack was full of them, and there was no dust on them.

The bottle label looked like the new ones, but I forgot to look at the mfg. date, and codes.

The 0W-40s did say "Made In Belgium", and they had the rack full of the new SRT labelled 0W-40 PU as well.

I had some GC dated 2007 and recently picked up some dated 2013 at the AZ clearance. Now I have to decide what to use it in.
Do you think it would work well in my Cruze 1.4T (which is a European motor) now that it's out of warranty?

Same thing, I checked in AZ, PepBoys, bottles look like they are made from different materials then before, still: Made in Germany.

It would more than likely work just fine in that engine.

I put 3100 miles on my car in just over 3 mos and the oil is close to the add mark.. Its never been this low at this mileage time before! Maybe I should not be using the 0w30 German Castrol in my civic? I do mostly short trip driving and with the last 2 months being very cold , who knows.. I may have to get things checked out..

Looks like it went up to 1/2 way mark. I added two -thirds of a qrt of 5w20 ultra,, lets see what happends, and looks like I have a slow valve cover leak..
