I am leaning towards the belief others have posted that it is a well connected thief getting keys cut.
They are probably running around taking cell phone pics of the VIN.
Once they have the key made, it wouldn't take a very hardened criminal to unlock the door and drive it off as if they owned it.
Being Winter, gloves and face coverings on cold snaps, with few people out, would be ideal I'd guess.
For how cheap the Club is, I plan to use one on my cars I own as technology seems to facilitate a well connected car thief sadly.
We'll discuss getting an indoor parking spot and maybe a new Club as hers has taken a beating. She also needs to drive it around more, it sits for weeks at a time on occasion.

There was an awesome tazer club that I saw at a Melbourne motor show some years back.
Alas the do gooders banned it.
Had two copper stips running axially along the "handle", a motion sensor and an alarm.
Motion sensor sensed motion, and the thing would throw a couple of sparks between the strips in warning, and IIRC bleep.
If you stayed moving, it would put out 120dB alarm, and if you grabbed the handle, drive the sparks through your hand.
Do gooders annoyed me, as if you really got yourself to the point that you were in jeopardy from the tazer, you had crossed all normal bounds in the first place.
