The Box House

Florida has strict rules about garage doors. In a hurricane it is common for the garage door to fail, then when wind gets inside the whole house blows apart.
Fla has alot of strict rules about homes.. what you can get away with just about everywhere else in Amerika don't fly down here.
most houses are CBS and stuccoed..
roof securement is heavy duty.
roof covering may be tile or steel instead of shingles as you go upscale on your wind protection, one thing you dont want is those old 3 tab shingles, those things fly off the house like 1000 frisbees..
windows will be minimum impact resistant or the higher Miami Dade code.. much like Bank windows... I think they can stop a 2x4 moving 140 mph...
hurricane rated garage doors
hurricane rated exterior doors.
bunch of other stuff.
then depends on where they are building what the local costs such as impact fees, inspection, water and electric hookup etc.. are.

Would be kind of cool if the garage door had matching windows! :ROFLMAO:
At least paint some fake windows on the garage door so that it doesn't look so lopsided. And yes, it needs trees and some landscaping around it. But it's probably a good landscaping layout for fire prone areas like Az and Cali.

Maximizes real, usable space. Looks more old-school plantation style house versus modern. I don't hate it but I don't love it.
It looks like the traditional saltbox houses that used to be common in coastal New England (but with a garage door added). Those houses were designed for heating efficiency and not looks and without porches and a lot of ornamentation so that they could survive severe storms and high winds.

In my area they're now required to withstand 140 MPH wind. And I'm 40+ miles inland!

Don't paint anything fake, it looks worse than not having anything.

Bad work will look worse. Good work can look great and easily fool people at first glance. Well, the link won't work but searching for murals on garage doors can lead to some cool looks.

I like that one. Simple and easy. As long as inside is nice since that's where I'm going to be spending most of my time.
It looks great on a desktop just now-lol
On my cell all day it didn't. Colorful.

This is the front... Looks like a detached garage instead of a home but it is about sq.ft. on the cheap...
