Well, the 98 Regal was a superb vehicle that rarely gave me trouble, but the body has pretty much had it. Some pics for you guys to enjoy. Not the best pics but you get the idea. Pulled the cradle with motor and trans in about 3 hours. Two of the cradle bolts wouldn't come out so the hot wrench took care of those. Also pictured is the rear right strut tower that was wasted.

Great pics. But that is sad to scrap a vehicle not because it is broken down but because the body could be salvaged at a reasonable cost. You would believe with it being 2012 a better de-icer could be used at a similar cost as road salt.

This is the fate that I'm afraid my wife's '05 xB will have-body gone long before the drivetrain is shot. Fortunately our snow/ice levels were much less last winter.

It's things like this that make the 100 degree days in the summertime seem not so bad. I've never lived anywhere that cars rust out like that and I don't plan to.

same thing happened to my buddy's 96 Taurus, He bought a newer car in some what better condition, gave the Taurus to a friend that was without a car, within a month, the rear strut towers collapsed while the new owner was driving it (trying to deliver a pizza!) drove it home with the car looking like a dog w/worms, parked it, and forgot about it.
- course the powertrain had approx 175k mi on it, and the oil/filter probably hadn't been changed in 50k(it used/leaked about a qt a week, so there was always fresh (whatever was cheap) oil being added ..)
(this is why I am doing the oci's on his newer car...)

Ouch! My Buick suffered the same fate last year.

Agreed, with all the damage to cars and infrastructure from salt, one would think that folks would be screaming for an alternative. Unfortunately the Northeast happens to have giant deposits of the stuff, and many mines. Take that to its logical conclusion.

I've driven in Winnipeg where its often cold enough for salt not to work at all, so they use sand. It seemed to get blown off almost instantly and on most side streets there was 50' of polished ice before every intersection...
I think the answer is having cars built to last, and rust proofing like Krown every year.

Even though we don't get rust we do lose interiers fast. Almost any car over a few years old will have a cracked dash, faded seats, falling head liner and bad paint from the sun. But I guess these imperfections are not fatal like rust is.

. Sorry to see it. At least you still have the L67 car.

I love Washington State, no rust. I remember when I moved here in 1994 I couldn't believe all the old cars running around with no rust.

I hate to ask but what are you doing with the center console with the cup holder? I let my wonderful BIL borrow my car this weekend and the cup holder which managed to last 14 years was broken by him. He pushed it in to hard and broke the strut that opens and closes it.

Yeah it sucks but the 98 was getting worse after every winter here. Once I snagged the 03 I knew the 98 needed to go. The cup holders are impossible to find. The 98 didn't have working ones and I searched high and low and got a working one. The 03 of course is broken so the cup holders will be transplated.... I did keep the powertrain from the 98 since it was still very strong with 226k on engine and 35k on trans.

Sorry...... My co-worker has a 99 GS and he needs cupholders too. Our friend had two, 2000s and neither had cup holders either. They are nice to have....

No problems, figured I would ask. I see them on Ebay for 180.00. Seems pricey, but since it the only thing broke on my car and it has a mere 90,000 miles on it. It is off to Ebay I go.

Did you have to pay to take it way or did they give you any money for it? Out here you usally have to pay to scrap a car.

Scrap is down, he gave me 100 bucks and took the car. I was happy with that. Honestly, I would have been happy with take it. hahhahahah. 180 for that piece is a lot. I switched the chromes from the 03 to the 98. Took everything out of the 98 that was worth anything. Engine, trans, Racetronix walbro set up, cluster, aftermarket cd/mp3 player, radiator with fans, wiring harness, fuse box, calipers. So I'm not heartbroken over the hundred bucks.
