After my last oil change in the Camry I used the last of my TGMO. I called the dealership where I bought the case last time. He said it was $7.28 a quart now!

It was $5.40 a quart a year ago when I checked the receipt. I explained that to the guy on the phone. No go on lower price.

So that leaves me with looking for other 0w20 oils.

Looking at QSUD, finally found it locally. Looks like a sleeper oil. I did not see ST 0w20 at Walmart.

PUP is no here here in the wild. PP is decent priced but have heard it causes increased oil consumption? Don't have that issue now.

Course Valvoline and Mobil 1 EP.

The car is short tripped a LOT.

$5.40 is still a bit high on something you have to go out of your way to get.

Get whatever is cheapest. Watch for rebates if you're interested too.

No great loss. I'd just grab some Mobil 1 if Pennzoil is tough to get. Around here the dealers price TGMO like it was gold.

+1

QSUD is fine for a Camry - it may be the "best bang for the buck" regularly priced full synthetic 0W-20 available.

Thanks all, yeah deciding on a oil is fun. analysis to paralysis. LOL

I saw that roll back at Walmart. QSUD was $21.97.

I will pick one and try it.

The dealer is close to me so not a big deal to drop by.

At NAPA I saw Enous oil, never heard of it.

Call some other Toy stores.
Check online and check CL.
I see TGMO on CL all of the time and purchased the TGMO I'm currently using from a CL seller for $40.00 for eleven quarts.
If all of this seems like way to much trouble, M1 AFE is arguably a better oil and is pretty cheap every day at Walmart with occasional scremin' deals offered. The same is true of M1 EP.
PP and QSUD would also be good choices and NAPA offers great deals on the on their store brand Valvoline syn a couple of times a years.
All of these oils are available in the 0W-20 grade.

I just called 2 other local dealers. $6.58 a quart.

Should be going down given that oil is $30 bucks a barrel now.

Pepboys has a sale this week on Castrol synthetic, about $33 with a $12 rebate so just $21 with a filter.

Sounds like a lot of work considering you can get just as good if not better oils at Walmart, no hassle for less cost.

No Pep Boys around here.

Valvoline I never used in any of my cars. Could be time to give it a whirl.

Course Redline is out there. LOL

I think that the cost of the crude used in producing Grp III basestock is probably only a small part of the cost of producing the basestock and basestock is but a fraction of the cost of the finished product.
I also suspect that the wholesale and retail margins on motor oil are probably higher than they were back in the days when motor was always cheap. There were once many regional general merchandise discounters who often used motor oil as a promotional item. Walmart has pretty well killed most of them off, so there is less retail competition now than was once the case.
Walmart has also beaten some other chains into having much less comprehensive and competitive motor oil selections than they once had, with Target and Kmart being salient examples.
There are still a few regionals to keep Walmart honest. In this area, Rural King and Meijer play this role.
In the case of TGMO, it's a dealer product and dealers aren't known for offering friendly prices to walk-up traffic. Online or with a shop discount would be another matter.

OK, now a stoopid question. What is the difference between Castrol Edge 0W20 and Castrol Magnatec 0W20?

Ran across the 2 researching.

I've not heard of what you mention with regard to PP and oil consumption; maybe you can point me to where you saw that. Personally, I would try it to see and give it a chance and just monitor for any consumption issue. I say that only because you mention you do a lot of short tripping. The lack of the car getting up to operating temps long enough to cook off condensation in the oil would bother me, so if it were my car, I would feel better running PP just because of that. Short of that I'd go with M1, then the QSUD. JM2C
