Text Messaging

At my college, it seems like text messaging is more popular than voice conversation. I'm one of the few who don't use text messaging, as I get unlimited mobile to mobile minutes and most of the people that I call are in-network. If I had another provider though, I'd probably have to get a text package to save some minutes.

How many of you use text messaging on your cell phone? How many messages do you send/receive a month?

Since work finally got me to succumb to a mobile, I've found that they are useful.

Use text more than voice around the power station site. Voice when off site.

I send a lot of texts. The most I ever ended up sending in a month was somewhere around 750, and I have unlimited text in my package so it's no big deal. It is usually closer to ten a day. Most texts I pushed in a day was 118 once and that was basically conducting an entire conversation with a person I couldn't phone over the course of a day.

I know some people who are moving over 3000 texts a month and to me that is insane. In my plan I traded off minutes of calling to get all the data features, and I have only gone over on my minutes once.

I am one of the 3000-3500 texts a month people. Sometimes my buddies and I will have a 10 minutes conversation just sending back texts.

Most of the people I text are in my verizon network so it is free.

Sometimes you just cant make a phone call so texting is the next best thing.

I have the LG Env with the keyboard, lot easier and quicker.

But I've made about that many calls as well.

I don't use text messages very often, it takes too much time to enter text on the phone. When I'm at the library for example I turn the phone to silent and when people text me, I can reply without walking outside to call back the missed call. Don't really use text messaging that often probably get 1 or 2 text per month. My service cost to receive. The text messaging plan is not really worth it if you don't do a lot of texting.

I also seen a ton of people constantly texting at school. I probably send out 10 texts a month. they are usually confirming lunch with a buddy that can't always answer his phone or they are insults that I send to another friend.

I have a friend here who probably sends out at least 75 texts a day.

I send about four a month. It is almost always to just check up on someone who I have not seen for a while - just a way of saying "hey" that isn't as serious as a call to see if they are still alive.

I have unlimited text/pix messaging on my T-Mobile phone, I usually use a couple hundred a month.

I consider texting more polite when performed by passengers in my car, than endlessly yakking and interfering with my radio, thought processes, etc.

Same goes in airport waiting lounges etc.

Totally agree. + it costs me .10 a msg to send or receive. That's what voice mail is for.

Used all the time(50+/month) however simple q that can be answered yes/no or I text someone to call me. Main usage is for biz to not disturb others with calls since vmail is a full waste of time.

I also use to get weather reports from texting GOOGLE(466453) and sending 'w 03833'. Basically weather(or 'w') space zip code.

Very few, usually just to my out of state son for nonemergency issues. However, after Katrina and Rita when the power and phone grids were down many people found they could get text messages out when voice calls could not. I learned that much later.

I just signed up for 250 texts (both in & out count) for $5.00 monthly from Verizon. My gal is going to London this week and her phone won't work there but texting will. I think it's .25 per when overseas so not really part of the package. We'll see if I keep the service or not......

I send maybe 10 a month, all work related.

Poor man's blackberry, which you can get at any time, anywhere, so its pretty decent for short notes.

For most stuff, though, youre better off just calling, IMO.
