TEXT MESSAGE FROM PC TO CELL PHONE ??

What this mean when you log into Verizon from your PC and send a text message to a cell phone?

Check status and it says" Network accepted message:

Then the Message delievered box stays blank vs. listing the time the message hit the handset? Does that indicate the cell phone on the receiving end is off, since the time delivered doesn't appear?

No experience with Verizon, but I know many (most.....if not all) SMS networks are really simple e-mail addresses

That's right, don't think for a moment the telcos "reinvented the wheel" to create their own form of messaging It's really just an e-mail message that is limited to 140-160 characters

The complication occurs though when you have these new "portable" telephone numbers....a telephone number may "look" like an ATT number, but actually owned/operated by another cell carrier due to a line transfer....

As far as I know a text should still get delivered wheather the phone is off or not....it'll just be stored on the telco's server until the phone is turned back on....

One way to be sure you sent the message to a Verizon cell phone is to send a simple email to the phone. The email address for any Verizon phone in the USA is the 10-digit cell phone number followed by @vtext.com, such as: [email protected]

Thanks! What I'm trying to figure out since now 30 minutes later it still says accepted by network. The Message Delivered box is still blank does that mean the cell is off?

I have a feeling it is off and is stored in the network until that phone is turned on again.

Indeed....I still remember getting those spam e-mails/forwards 10+ years ago "Forward this to all your friends if you don't want to be charged "postage" for your e-mails"....


Well....leave it to the telcos Text messages _are_ in fact "e-mails" - e-mails limited to 140-160 characters And they cost what...10c per text "flat rate" unless you have a "data pack"....?


If only I would have forwarded those to all my friends - perhaps this day wouldn't be upon us?

I mean really, I can't see a 140-160 character text message using "that" much bandwidth

I pay 30/mo for unlimited data that's actually only 5GB... and still have to pay 10$ for texting plan...

Text messages are handled differently on the network from what I understand. There is a reason for their short length limitation. I don't want to bore anyone and I'm not trying to justify the cost I'm just saying they are different than email in how they are handled at the network layer.

One could get a Google Voice number and send free text messages from a browser (on a computer or a smart phone).

You don't need a Google Voice account to do that. you can send an email as a text message to most providers as outlined about.

Yeah, you just have to find out your email. Just make a blank text on your phone to your email addy, should recieve it, and then you can just look in the from: box.. Maybe save it to address book.

Ain't that the truth! We just updated our Verizon plan and my wife has the data package on her Blackberry. There was a limit of 500 text messages, at a cost of 10 bucks a month extra, and she easily exceeded than amount...as well as the 2100 split minutes we share.

Now, we get unlimted minutes and for 10 dollars more a month on the text package....she gets to send up to 5000 messages a month! She uses that Blackberry in her job...a LOT!

They cost me 20 cents on my phone so I instructed my kids and my wife.....NO TEXT MESSAGES!

My wife is trying hard to get her employer to help on the bill since she uses the phone so much in her job. They provided her with a work phone but ATT service in this arear is spotty at best...even though their coverage map shows full coverage.
