Tesla Model 2, a $25,000 Tesla

Tesla didn't agree to any recall. The NHTSA made them recall their vehicles, otherwise, owners would be stuck with a $4,000 repair bill.

Except for the problem where they admitted to designing the tablets in such a way as to not expect it to last beyond 5-6 years, which is why they are being asked to issue a recall by the NHTSA. Without completing the major repair, it's essentially become the first disposable car that was bought at premium car prices.
Toyota had display issues on the first and second generation Prius - if the MFD goes out, you lose audio, HVAC but most importantly you don’t have any indication for the HV battery or any malfunctions if the master warning lamp illuminates.

but, unlike Tesla, Toyota has a bit of sweep it under the rug, we did nothing wrong attitude.

I can already see that there will be aluminum wheels and painted bumpers on the options list, bundled with 14 other unwanted upgrades in an 'appearance package' for $4,000. LOL

I was thinking the same thing. I like that the picture has a grey bumper and steel wheels. So 1980s/90s base model!

It’s pretty darn ugly, but I don’t think you get a choice given the drag challenges. I think the aerodynamics just play better with a sedan-looking car...

Disagree, its being recorded as voluntary based on the NHTSA asking vs making, and there is a difference.

4K is peanuts for a 100K car going back to 2012 - who else takes care of anything like that without it being forced?
Mercedes covers the fuel tank on W211 models from 2003-2009. That's about a 3k repair job as they replace the fuel tank and pump. Some cars end up smelling gas in the car and it's a 15 year no mileage limit extended warranty. They also covered SBC which was electronic brakes for 25 years no mileage limit, that was 2003-2006 models, about a 2-3k repair. They didn't cover the balance shaft problem in the 2006-2007 model years though, that was a 5-8k engine repair.

Mercedes is hit and miss for me, but better than some for certain.

Mercedes tried to deny a blown turbo on a sprinter of mine at 5.01 years and 37K until I proved to them I bought an extended warranty then all the sudden they found my warranty in the system.

I had to fight bmw for everything.

Lexus installed a new dash pad in my 400h at 10 years.

I think Tesla is missing the boat by not making the cars have more traditional appearing gauges above the steering wheel and more in the driver's line of sight, and having traditional, tactile knobs and buttons for a lot of the features like the HVAC and others. They could then use a touchscreen of about 12" x 6" for all the other features. This is what you get when you have workers with a median age of about 34 years old.

Regarding options, in most cases they are simply a profit center for the manufacturer. Case in point:
I just ordered a 2021 Jaguar F Type R. The options I specified were metallic paint upgrade: $710. OK, that's not too bad. Full leather interior upgrade and deluxe floor mats: $2650. Heated and cooled seats: $800. Heated steering wheel: $250. HomeLink garage door opener: $255. Blind Spot Assist system: $500.
I didn't even consider things like a dual zone climate control $600 (not necessary in a car with as small of a cabin as an F Type) or Jaguar logo locking lug nuts for $160. A set of McGards for about $65 will do just fine thank you.

My $37,000 Mazda CX 5 GT Reserve had heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, HomeLink, a dual zone climate control and a blind spot assist system as standard equipment.

Congrats on the the jag,

The screen is a great cost reducer and installation assembly time saver.

Def prefer the 2 screens on the S&X to the single 3 and Y screen.

It's important to research the year in the W211 before jumping into one. Both of mine never had a warranty. The newer models are better.

I say improve the Model 3 by adding HUD and blind spot warnings in the side view mirrors.
Keep the clean dash look and keep adding voice commands.
Why? I find the Lexus almost confusing after driving the Model 3. Waaay to cluttered to easily find things.
"I'm cold."

lol, just like Apple; any computer you want to get from them ends up 35% more than the price on the website. $400 dollars iPhone SE? Charging brick not included.

A hud would be nice.

My lexus is filled with weird japanesisms - like a volume that maxes at 67.

The uplift is because you checked different boxes. There is the base model and there are add ons.

A charging brick isnt 35% of the cost.

At least the low end product or version exists - unlike Chevy where the product never materializes and they get to point fingers at the channel.

I am referring to things like spending 1000 dollars for a computer and getting 8Gb of RAM as the default.

Who is going to do that? Add some more memory and a reasonable disk upgrade and it is 35%

Sure, but there is no bait and switch going on.

In the case of chevy you cant get the base version even if you want it.

Yeah but why would you want to? I think I've only seen one base Mercedes car, otherwise all the other base model cars all have the Premium 1 package. I guess that's so they can say it's not a base car. But most of them sold just have the premium 1 package. I used to think that must have been a dealer that ordered it for the super low price, but now that I think of it, it's so rare that it must have been custom ordered by someone who wanted no options because you normally never see it that way.

That's... weird. I could see 15, 31, 63. 0 to 99 is possible too, heck anything is possible in a custom design. But 67, that's like they were trying to be strange.

Maybe it's actually 0-255 (or even higher, like 0-1023) but in order to model logarithmic curves it makes jumps over linear steps. [I'm assuming that they are using a multiplying DAC to pull of volume control.]

Ive been using computer with 8GB ram for years, sometimes people just want the basics. OS X does a pretty good job of memory management.

The stripper model has always been a thing - advertised as we have "one of these" on the lot serial # X

At least with tesla when the 35K came out anyone that wanted it could buy it.
Turns out Elon was right, most people preferred to pay more and get more.
