Tesla Maintenance

They've actually graduated to using automotive grade parts, and by all accounts their panel misalignment and structural leaks have been reduced.
It shows too. There's some parts on my Performance that just don't feel as high quality as the new car. I don't have any fit issues with either car, nor did I with the 3, but the interior felt even cheaper in the 3. It's like the seat material was more rubbery. My Performance is a late Y before the redesign though and I think they have been upgrading materials year by year instead of waiting for refreshes. I have seen bad fitment earlier Teslas though.

So gasoline and diesel cooling systems have combustion byproducts? LOL
Batteries and the electric motors don't get as hot so it's not under as much pressure. Whether that actually prolongs life is another thing.

$40 for a tire rotation and $3 for washer fluid is all I’ve had to do for regular maintenance on my Tesla.
I rotated the '18 Mid Range tires once or twice, added blue warsher fluid and swapped a cabin air filter. I did pick up a nail in the Conti sidewall; that was a $400 tire!

The '24 M3P uses staggered tire sizes, so no rotation.

Neither have been to a shop for service or repair; I took off the damaged tire wheel and brought it in.
Such easy cars to live with especially fueling. Now my car insurance is another story... Man it jumped about a year ago!

Yeah mine was $185/month for the first 6 months. Now it’s $343/month :(

I cant believe these numbers you guys are presenting! :( Yikes!
it’s because I had an accident that resulted in totaling a 2024 prologue with 6K miles on it. Cost insurance about $40K. I don’t think that’s Teslas fault. But it wasn’t on my record yet when I got the Tesla but when they rechecked my record at the 6 month renewal report it showed up. I don’t blame them for that.

Oh, no, I dont blame Tesla for anything. It just goes to show how expensive it is to insure EVs and many high horsepower vehicles.
All good. As an example I dont even pay for one year on my wife's 2025 Equinox what @Torrid pays for 6 months on his 2024 Tesla.

Our total Vehicle insurance for a full year is $1,146.39 for both vehicles 2025 Equinox and 2017 Chevy Traverse.
(Both cars $573.19 for 6 months I paid by the year)

We buy what makes us happy.

The GTI was $580 for 6 months. I think it just must be the rates here.

I switched to State Farm and pay $232/mo ($1,392/6 months) for 3 vehicles with $250,000/$500,000 BI and $250,000 PD with $250 comp and $1,000 collision deductibles, no rental for these 3:

2025 Bronco
2024 Yukon XL
2023 Tesla Model Y Performance

I fully expect this to inch up with each renewal but it was quite a savings from Farmers and most everyone else. Wife and I are early 40s.

Two different Tesla techs have told me that the coolant doesn't need to be changed. That seems to be Tesla's position. They were both so adamant on the subject I'm not sure they would have replaced it if I had asked them to.

I'd hate to replace the OEM coolant with coolant intended for an ICE. That might cause more harm than good.

I did ask them to replace the brake fluid (on my 4 year old Model 3). Did they replace it? Nope, they tested it and said it didn't need changing. I saved a bit of money I suppose but I'll just have to get it tested again in a year or so.
It is a G48, Zerex G48 is on the shelf at local auto parts stores.

Ev6 GT for comparison:
The 6 month premium used to be less than the '13 GS350 F Sport which is like $540. I think it was maybe $450. Now it is about $1000.
I did have 1 payout; my friend opened the passenger door as an old Accord was pulling in the the next parking lot stall. Very minor damage to the beater Accord and nothing to the '18 Model 3. The M3P started lower than the earlier car, but recently more than doubled.

My rates are generally really low. Heck the RX450h F Sport is $20K more expensive than the M3P and is only $350 for 6 months.
Sheesh, what's a poor boy to do?

I'm going to test drive an M3 soon. I can't find any negatives with an EV for my situation and area. Plenty of charging stations around.
