Tesla continues Silicon Valley expansion.

Pretty good... over a of third of a million square feet!

Lots of jobs. That's something we haven't discussed very much: "Electric Car Technician". I wonder if the tech colleges are offering courses in this new field of technology?

DeAnza College in Cupertino, where I studied Computer Science, has offered Automotice Technology for 50 years. Classes are always impacted. Maybe 5 years ago they program added EV tech classes.

You can probably guess business square footage ain't cheap around here...

Tesla is offering a job as a start technician on their website with training for this.

I’ll be rooting for them. I hope they have a solid game plan and turn this around.
I suspect it may not be automobiles.

I talk to a lot of mechanics on a daily basis. Many of the ones I talk to more than once know I like EVs.

The ones that are good mechanics who aren’t about to retire all express interest in learning about them because they understand that it’s going to be a chunk of their business in the future and if they can’t work on them, someone else will.

Keep in mind we’re at the point where mainstream EVs are now 10 years old. If you have a 2017 Chevy Bolt, which is like a $10K car that literally anyone can afford, you should probably change the coolant and brake fluid. And most people still trust independent shops more than the dealership.

That makes perfect sense, evolve. I wonder how much of an investment they have to make to equip themselves to service them? Not brake jobs and tire rotations but to actually troubleshoot and repair them, and if their labor rate will be higher, lower or the same to service ICE vehicles. We have a local shop that services ICE, they charge $175/hour, and to troubleshoot electrical systems he gets $200/hour. My bet is most shops will charge more to service an EV to try to recover the cost of learning and equipment.

Plenty of local shops in our area already at $200/hr and most have the latest Autel, Launch, Snap-on, etc scanners that support common tasks on most EVs.

Tesla is different but they offer subscriptions to their own thing and it’s much easier than some of the other OE stuff from my understanding.

We have few shops getting $200/hour, I found this guy's pricing interesting regarding troubleshooting electrical issues. Time will tell regarding EV repair. I don't see Tesla making it easy for local shops, repair work is another revenue stream for them. They'll probably do exactly what the legacy automakers did/do, make it tough for local shops keeping up with tools and technology driving repair costs up.

Get rid of Musk and get a ceo that doesn't lie about their product capabilities and timelines ie "OH yeah we'll be full autonomy in a couple of years " said Musk in 2017. "We're not a car company anymore " claims Musk. He also seems to think that the Cybertruck is a success but four days ago it got reported that space X bought 1279 of them which skewed sales numbers. Oh and Optimus from employee info is way behind just like the roadster that will be unveiled "anytime now".

I just love seeing Tesla continue to invest in domestic manufacturing and wonder why anyone can hate on US jobs by just trashing a truly US based company.
Fremont is always hiring. Not everyone can be a lowly programmer, like me. Their Engineering is headquartered in Palo Alto, also always hiring.

Fremont is starting the SX mfg line changeover to the production line for its Optimus humanoid robots, with a primary shift occurring in 2026. Of course that's Elon time, so there's that. ;)

Will Optimus really be on time? I kind of doubt it as Tesla doesn't have a stellar track record for getting new products out the door. Are there any orders for it? I haven't seen or heard any companies shelling out big deposits for Optimus.

Nothing is ever on time. As you say, Tesla's projects are all over the map, priorities changes, projects are cancelled, restarted, and who knows what.

In large scale business projects we say either the time line or budgeted money slips. Usually both. And that's for implementing known products and/or technology.
Tesla has always done things differently, often to their harm. Having said that, leaders do not follow.

I will tell you this; we recently attended the NVIDIA world tech conference. Physical AI will chage everything; embrace change or die.

That scammer.
At this point I really don’t get people who are buying his cars.
The earnings call yesterday was a disaster bcs. FSD in HW3, and yet he still preceded to lie about HW4 capabilities, then retracting statements.
So now people who paid $8,000-$15,000 for full FSD and have HW3, will NOT get money back. Only thing they can do is trade in their car and get discount on mew one.
This is going to be interesting next few years.

Yeah, The latest, Musk warns on robot axis roll out. Another thing that didnt come through last year. But now in the investors mind that does not matter anymore? Next is its investment in AI and possible relationship with Space X.
Next?

"During an April 2025 earnings call, Musk said robotaxis would become material to Tesla’s bottom line by “the middle of next year.” On Wednesday, he said robotaxis would likely “not be super material this year,” but “will be material probably in a significant way next year.”

Meantime Tesla made almost no money on its EVs in the first quarter. Im not against Tesla but you cant trust any statements from the company if you are an investor. Sooner or later you have to make money to justify the selling price of a stock. It's been over ten years now and they barely made anything.

It's no secret Tesla is a huge employer in Silicon Valley, among other places.
They just secured 2 more properties, one close to the Fremont main factory and the other a few miles south in San Jose.

A great American company.
I agree. Too bad some people have been convinced all successful people and industries are evil and the cause of their problems in life.
There should be an annual "Tesla Day" in Cali to appreciate what they brought to your state instead of the hate some have for them.
