I have pest control at my house currently, my wife and I saw some bugs in the house the other night and thought the looked like termites. Pest control confirmed, they are swarming formosan subterranean termites. Our house does have a termite policy and gets treated every 10 years, with the most recent treatment being in 2015. Hoping no damage has been done. Haven't seen any more around the house since that swarm a couple of days ago.

I thought termites had to crawl up the foundation blocks, making mud tunnels or paths or whatever, to get up into the framing wood of a house?

P.S. Do they spray packaged mulch to kill any termites that might be trying to hitch a ride in the mulch, so's you don't install termites along with the new mulch you lay down around the house's landscaping?

No, termites generally can't survive apart from their colony.

My home in DE has a termite warranty. Meaning they inspect yearly (I pay for) and if found they treat at no cost.

Yes, we have a termite policy and it is inspected yearly, in fact they did an inspection today while here.

I sure hope he checked the attic for their presence. They can fly into the vents and start eating up the wood in there.

Termidor or Taurus SC is your friend. I drench my house and surrounding land with it early to mid spring every year. It doesn’t rain much here so it stays put. They can go where they will but I have a welcoming committee for them. Soon as they start chewing, they’re instant toast. Product has a cumulative effect so the more you use the latent product builds up over time. Kills most everything; just a delightful product...

Where to buy Termidor and how do you apply it on a home with brick exterior?
Those insects can be a real disaster, they damaged wooden constructions in my garage once and it took ages to get rid of them. The extermination service is so expensive, I spent a big amount of money on it... Here is the article with some decisions that can come in handy to keep your house safe.
I had to replace 20' of outside wall from sill to top plate last summer. No live termites found. The Terminate Stakes do a good job of getting rid of them. $50 or so for a box of 18 from Menards, cheaper with their deals they have. I go though about a box or two a year depending on the local conditions. Had a big flood last spring and it seemed to have knocked them out for the summer as only a couple of stakes popped last year. Some years though I will go though two or three boxes (hot dry).
