Hello all, this is my first post here but I have been frequenting this board for quite some time. I usually can find the answers to my questions using the search feature but I could not find much on this one. So here goes....What fluid should I use to change out the girlfriends Dexron II in her 97 Tercel? The car has 75k on it and it's never been changed. Could I use regular old Dexron III or would the Toyota stuff work better?

Used Supertech DEXRON III from Wal-Mart on a 97 toyota corolla every 30-40K with no problems. Had 185K on the car before it was totaled.

Use the DIII, it is backwards compatible with the D2's friction charecteristics, and is an improved fluid to degradation. D6 is available too.

It should say in your manual. If you're doing a pan drop and filter change it'll be right in there, it's near the back.

If you're doing the cooler line flush method, empty into a large container and then empty into gallon jugs 1 gallon = 4qt, use that as a rough estimate and use the dipstick to tweak.

supertech dex III will work fine.. had good luck with castrol dexIII also. Dont worry about a pan drop or a machine flush.. i think it takes around 4qts to drain and refill. which is easy and will take as long as it takes to change the oil. have some extra in case.

Muddawgs,

Are you saying the Tercel has a drain bolt? I guess i just assumed I was going to have to drop the pan. I may drop it this time just to change the filter, but if it has a drain bolt, I would go that way in the future.
