I sometimes see Amsoil XL 10w30 going into cars at a mechanic's shop i once took my car to. Please tell me more about the benefits and rating of this oil? Is it "conventional?" Is it good for 5000 or 6000-mile OCIs? Thank you.

A quick search revealed about 400 hits.
Basically its Syn oil thats designed for manufacturer OCI's not extended drains.
OE - equivalent to your basic GF-5/SN motor oil
XL - equivalent to mid grade synthetics like PP, Mobil Super Syn, Synpower etc.
ASL/AZO etc - equivalent to Mobil 1 Extended Performance /PU
