telemarketers...

So after the 100th dropped call on my cell i decided to start a landline phone service back up at my place, the service is with Frontier. So within the first 24 hours i get 3 telemarketers calling me, im annoyed but deal with it.. next day before noon i get 7 telemarketers calling my house.. the last one i blow up on (and fib) and i tell her this number is registered on the do not call list.. the number is registered but it takes 31 days to be effective. TODAY, at exactly 8:00 am the phone starts ringing and by 9:00am i take 4 calls from telemarketers, the last one i hand the phone to my 2.5 year old and put it on speaker.. I dont think the telemarketer cared much for that.. Has anyone else experienced this insane high volume of telemarketers ? a few times the call were basically one right after the other !!!! thats just insane, one telemarketer actually laughed at me when i asked him if i could call him back later tonight when he gets home.

since its obvious im going to be dealing with the telemarketers for the next month im looking for some real zingers to throw at them.. tips ?

I had a sports gambling telemarketer call me from Reno on my cell. It was the most profane laden call I received then I was able to get my words in. It happened 3 times within 10 minutes and my cell phone has been on the do not call registry since who knows when and I renew it every year, but that does not stop people from calling.

Not really a tip, but an observation: No one has ever dreamt of becoming a telemarketer when they grow up. The people calling you are doing so for next to no money, probably because this is the only job they can get at the moment; and are dealing, *daily*, day in day out, with a long shift full of abuse. These people probably want to be on the phone with you even less than you want to be on the phone with them.

Please be a good man and just politely decline whatever they're selling and ask them not to call you again. If, however, you find a way to ruin the day of the weasels who own or run these operations, please post it here so we can all do it.

I usually tell them I have to deal with my 9 month old twins for a second and ask if they can hold on, they usually say yes, then just put them on hold and 'forget about them'

Sometimes they have scripts so you can't get a word in edgewise so polite doesn't work, if they were to politely ask me if I had time for their speech, then I could politely decline.

Tell them to hold on for a second while you put on your ear piece and put the phone next to a speaker with obscene music as the "on hold tunes". I find rap with curse words works very well and they usually end the call within 20 seconds due to the lyrics of the song.

and how much energy am i waisting stopping (doing whatever it is im doing) to awnser the frigging phone for the umphteenth time that day ???
Yesterday the same place called 3 times after i had asked them not to call back and said i was not intrested..
They ARE persistant sales people on the phone calling and bothering ME when im trying to relax or get my own stuff done..

ALL you sticking up for the poor telemarketers can take my share of there frigging calls and sweet talk them all you want.. im OVER them..

I've been getting a bunch of those calls recently even though my home number is on the do not call list. Usually I let the answering machine pick up the call. If someone wants to talk to me, they can leave me their number. The telemarketers always hang up when the answering machine picks up the call.

My approach: "Click." No "No thanks", no polite talk.

Wastes as little of my time as possible and actually does the telemarketer a favor by allowing him/her to make another harassing call right away.

I am also on the Do Not Call list. I may start asking for their company name and number so that I can report them to the FTC for violating the DNC policy.

Get used to it. The do not call list is a joke and here's why. When you file a complaint against a telemarketer at the do not call website all that happens
is that information is made available to law enforcement agencies (if they even chose to look at it), but the feds who run the do not call list do not take any action against the telemarketer. There are honest telemarketers who will respect your wishes when your on the list, but the scumbags will keep on calling because they know nothing will happen to them.

Probably your best hope may be going through your state's attorney general's office. If enough people in your state complain they may take action

sounds like a waist of time even trying, I bet if the governor started getting the calls at his home something would happen.

Comcast is driving me crazy. Continually calling to offer me the "triple play". Every time its the same answer. "No thanks, I'm using a Skype cordless phone, talking to you on it now". Then more of the sales pitch followed by "Can you beat $2.99 a month"? Then they hang up.

We get about 10 telemarketing calls an hr at the shop..we now have caller I.d. when I see its a telemarketer I answer with. " Joe's abortion clinic no fetus can beat us". that gets rid of most of them. the stubborn ones get asked if they would like to make an appt.

I have someone overseas that calls me a few times a week at work asking for someone else. I tell them he does not work there any more but the same person calls the next week asking the same question. I recently told the caller that the guy now works for the NSA and I have his direct number. The caller never called back.

I have told telemarketers that I am renting the house, house sitting or wife is waiting in the car for me.

I used to get slammed by them all the time. I would just hang up as soon as they started when it was clear this was a TM. Don't waste time and effort talking with them. Just hang up.

BTW - some of you are saying that the person calling is just doing their job and such. While that is true keep in mind that some TM companies actually use prisoners in jails for this. NEVER EVER give your CC or other info to ANY TM.

I finally had enough and had my number changed to unlisted. My number was added to the DNC registry to try and cover the time period in which I had to wait for the new telephone books to come out with our number not in it. In total it took about 1-2 years to really eliminate TM's completely. My number has been unlisted now since 2004 and if I get one TM a year it is a surprise.

The practice of telemarketing should be outlawed completely. So should allowing bulk mailing. We need a National Do Not Mail registry too. I get so much junk mail that just gets thrown out( recycled when possible )it isn't funny.

EDIT - almost forgot. Somone said you have to add your phone number to the DNCR every year. That is not true. Once added it is permanently on the list. Info stating that is on the DNC site. I just checked my house number and it is still listed. Registered Aug 2003.

Welcome to the world of outbound sales. Luckily, I don' have to deal with that,but keep in mind those calls are recorded and likely gone over by Q/A, and then the rep is "coached" on how the should have done it. Just people doing their job. I work for TWC and our inbound line which is where I work is similar.
