Really? Maybe the most expensive place in the country to make cars.
Taxes, regulations etc. Last time I was there the cab was a Ford escape Hybrid. Seemed to be a good job.

Ah, but transporting the finished cars to one of their biggest markets will be VERY cheap.

I rode in an Escape Hybrid there, too. Mediocre vehicle for the job, IMO. Something more purpose-built would be much better.

I hope whatever vehicle that is selected as a taxi in NYC is extra tough to handle the massive potholes and uneven rumbling roads that NYC endures every winter and spring thaw.

IMO....the only vehicle that will take the abuse dished out by NYC's streets and roads are SUVs with heavy duty suspension.

Everyday is a jolting ride and enough to have fillings fall out of your teeth and dentures drop off your gums. What a nice break to be driving here in Florida. I'll miss driving in Florida.....I've been spoiled with the "smooth as glass" roads here!

the Mazda5 is already here, and has a 6 speed now.

For his part, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he is more interested in getting the right taxi for the job, rather than whether or not it creates jobs for his constituents, telling WOR radio “You’ve got to look at how much experience the companies have in building cars. What do you do if after two years the wheels start falling off?”

Sounds like it's already between Ford and Nissan...

More like a Class 8 desert racing truck with 4 dampers per corner, and 20" of wheel travel!!

(People who; do not live near there, or do not travel into the city regularly, or have never been there, just have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER of how bad the roads are!

I have been on bombed-out rally stage roads that were billiard table smooth by comparison!!)

Yep, Bloomberg more or less laughed Karsan's Brooklyn vehicle production plan out of town. There's no way that even a modern auto manufacturing plant could meet the strict emission, noise, and other regulations inside NYC.
