^^^^^Yes, a MUCH better causal explanation!!

It's almost the f body equivalent of a "factory lightweight" option on an M3 (when Bimmer still offered such).

I.e.; crank windows, manual seats & mirrors, base radio, no cruise control, no T-Tops, no leather, and mine does not even have a rear window defroster/defogger, although I did opt for the factory fluid to coolant power steering cooler.
Basically the lightest (and yes, also least expensive) LS1 Z28 one could have purchased new from the factory.

They used to offer a 1LE option which would also delete the complete radio/wiring for stereo/antenna, etc, and the ac, but they stopped this on the 4th gen ('93-'02) f bodies.
I might have actually considered it IF it were still available, especially since the package also included Koni double adjustable shocks at all four corners with a full factory warranty on them (which Koni does NOT grant on the OTC bought double adjustables which I installed).

Do you guys just drain & refill with distilled/coolant or is there a good way to actually flush a coolant system with distilled water?

I've always wondered what people are doing. I have friends at two different dealerships. They flush and mix with tap.

If I have a car that needs a serious flush I will flush with tap water + flush chemicals, then run enough tap water to clean out the chemicals, then drain and fill/drain twice with distilled or deionized before adding the final solution of coolant and good water.

I think that's safe with any city or well water that is drinkable without having to get used to it or holding your nose.

It is the best first choice.
Some tap water is very 'hard', and some is 'soft'.
We have excellent Lake Michigan water around here, and I would have no problems using it.
But I repeat, distilled is best if you are positioned to get it. In many places or emergencies it is not an option.

1 Gallon of Distilled Water is .99 with no Tax since its Water. At Supermarket, not WM.

Wally World has actual Gallons of NON Pre-Mixed Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze (bright neon Green like Ethylene Glycol, actually Brighter) and DexCool for what, $12.99?

Same here, except I just use tap water for the fill/drain twice, then use distilled/deionized for the final fill.

I figure that between dilution, the add pack in the Dex Cool, and the No Rosion additive I use, any bad stuff in the tap water is neutralized/rendered inert.

I also let the engine cool after the final flush/drain, and then crank it a few times to try and expel as much of the remaining tap water as possible.

Chevron. Same product as Texaco/Havoline Dex Cool.

No. 1SC refers to an option package and 1SC includes almost everything like Power locks, windows, upgraded stereo and all. Below that you had the 1SA and 1SB packages. These codes are common across all GM vehicles. Some models even go up to 1SD. Nothing all all about performance or stripped down cars - all about optional equipment.

You are correct, however, on the 1LE cars which were stripped down for speed use. I do not recall Koni shocks ever being a part of the package but may be wrong there.

Interesting fact - if you read your owners manual you will see that GM recommends Dex Cool along with clean drinking water. They never mention distilled water. Look it up - it'll be in the recommended fluids section.

This is a general comment, not about GM or American products.

I will put that water recommendation in the same category as lifetime lubricants on new cars.

Thanks, that's what prompted my OP. Since Dexcool maybe designed to combat impurities in tap water [minerals and other items found in clean drinking water], with the absence of those impurities could Dexcool be corrosive to the cooling system when cycling through operating and cooling temperatures? I have another question and concern about another commonly used fluid's design to combat impurities, but it is for a different forum.

There are scale inhibitors and I forget the term but additives that prevent phosphate from reacting with the minerals in hard water. Dexcool's inhibitor don't react with hard water so are probably not needed. It's hard to say if any of them are in a given coolant. They'd more likely be in a phosphated coolant but not necessarily in one like Asian coolant that is premixed with demineralized water. I think distilled water would only improve the performance of Dexcool and any other coolant.

OK, I will take your word on the option codes since you are a very knowledgeable factory guy, but then what was the code for a complete 'stripped' Z28 like I bought 11 years ago??? (So I can change it in my sig, and for future reference).

My only add on option (besides the Z28 package itself) was the factory p.s. cooler and the Gatorback GSC Z-rated tires. I have; crank windows, manual seats, manual outside mirrors, no leather, no rear window defroster, no T-Tops, no cruise control, and the basic Monsoon sound system (it was even a cassette player!!).

Yes, I DO know for a fact that the 1LEs (at least the 4th gens) came with; higher durometer suspension bushings (but still made of rubber), Koni double adjustable dampers at all four corners, and larger front and rear swaybars.

The 1LE option package was available on LS1 Camaros and Firebird Formulas in '98 and '99 with the stripper option package. The 1LE package included different springs, bigger swaybars and better bushings (as you indicated), and a few other improvements such as different lower control arms. I also don't recall Koni's being offered (I thought they came with Bilsteins), unless they were on the "aftermarket" SLP 1LE package (not a real factory 1LE) that was optional on 2001 and 2002 SSs.

As to the 1SC package, I'm pretty sure that is correct for the "stripper" Z-28, or the stripped Formula (standard options deleted). The code on my 2002 Z is 1SD, and it included the Preferred Equipment Group (PEG), the only option package available for 2002.

It's available at any GM (Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, or GMC) dealers parts department for about $20 a gallon.

Yes, we are getting waaaayyyy OT here, but as far as I know the 1LE did include the Konis (maybe it was only on the '98 & 99 1LEs??).
And yes, I also forgot to mention the higher rate (linear front) springs at all four corners on the 1LEs.

The SLP SSes, Firehawks, and WS6es came with the "SLP valved" (what Sam Strano calls them) Bilstein HDs.

The main purpose of the 1LE option was to be able to be competitive in SCCA Showroom Stock, or T2 class road racing.
