Taking The Plunge: LubeGard

Tomorrow afternoon. I'll be taking the lubegard plunge because the Connect's 8 speed trans is acting up again. I got the idea while watching a youtuber named BigBen using lubegard trans fix product. I just know that while adding the fluid from the top of the trans, this person then added the lubegard product. However at that time I didn't know what it was. Doing a bit of research and based on a lot of BOG forum members seem this product has worked for them and continues to work for them. I'm reading 98% of those who use it, swear by it. This shuddering is a know issue and ford claims they know about it and would not service our van till 100K miles. But I've had the trans drain and filled with the BG Products AFT 3 times since 30K miles and for all those times, the trans shifted flawlessly and I thought this would take care of the shuddering issue. But after the 3rd drain and fill the shuddering has return. So tomorrow, after the service, we'll see if there's any difference with this being added.



BTW, we've hire BigBen to install the Hardrace Camber Plates on the van sometime late june / early july. You can look for that video on his youtube channel sometime thereafter.

Good plan; please do update with your findings. I always use it in every trans I service (red or platinum usually). I know it would be fine w/out it; but I've just had so many positive experiences that I keep on doing it

The trans seem to only do this shuddering at low RPMs.. this shuddering can also be confused with the throttle body flapper which has been getting stuck lately. So add in the shuddering and throttle body lag.. I'm considering just removing the throttle body for a complete cleaning, new gaskets etc.

I just did the trans fluid on our 2017 Escape with the 6F35. 91K KM on the Escape, and the fluid was changed at the Ford dealer at 58K KM. It started shuddering at 30-50 km/hr at light throttle input. Off to the internet I went and was told could be throttle boddy, could be spark plugs, could be ignition coils.

I used Pennzoil LV ATF (Mercon LV license) as well as a small tube of the LG Instant Shudder Fix, as well as a 10oz bottle of LG Red. It shifts and drives better than it did when new. I did four drain and fills, last fill I mixed up the LG ISF and LG Red in a half full bottle of the Pennzoil LV.

I think Motocraft Mercon LV fluid is junk to begin with.

Also, I watched Big Ben's video on doing the trans service on an Escape multiple times before I mustered up the courage to tackle the job.

few more hours till we drive to the shop to have the lubegard injected into the system. the tech said he's never heard of this stuff and I may end up in the shop with him to show him hows its done. I would do this myself, but bending and stooping around a very low engine bay is not my forte'

Welp, here's what happen drove over to the shop where I was suppose to have met up with the tech that said he would be there.. turns out he wasn't.. So.. I took it upon myself to do this myself. wasn't as hard as I was setting up for those I took my time, I remove the airbox and disconnected the mass sensor. then adding a funnel, I added the lubegard and ran the van cycling through the gears. after about 15 mins I thought best to drive around town on some of the back roads are a slow speed down shifting in to Manual mode a few times. Just so I could cycle the lubegard through the system.. then it happen, the beltway.. clear as a belt and I put it to the test.. speed limit here is 75 mph.. I couldn't tell right off till i reduced speed through the city and paid attention to the gears and how well they shifted.. I didn't notice any shuddering nor hard shift and this is just after one use. did lubegard make a believer out of this old man? YES! can't wait to see the wife's face when she takes it out tomorrow morning. I'm sure she will noticed a difference. Plus saved me $100.00 just to have the tech do this service.. I was skeptical but it's won me over.. so far.

now that I know I can access this area easily, I'll do a better job of cleaning areas where I don't normally get.

I have used various lubeguard products through the years and have only good to say. I try to start with less than a full dose - maybe a quarter dose or so if using it. Even a small amount makes a very nice difference.
