Hello,
Any oil recommendations for the new T24A - FTS turbo engine 4 cylinder.

Toyota manufacturer recommends an oci at 5k.
I was doing some AI search and found that the survey was Castrol oil full synthetic as the preferred choice. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance

T24A-FTS turbo engine 4 cylinder

I'm just gonna post some engine's specs along with commentaries for those who are not familiar with this engine like myself. But will withhold my oil recommendation, for now.

Manufacturer: Toyota Georgetown Plant, Alabama, USA
Fuel system: Direct Fuel Injection + Port Fuel Injection (D-4S)
Engine oil weight: SAE 0W-20 (Oil recommendations and capacity may vary depending on the car model, year, and market. Please check the service manual specific to your vehicle!)

T24A-FTS Reliability and Longevity

The 2.4L T24A-FTS is a highly efficient and technically advanced modern four-cylinder turbo engine. Its reliability and longevity depend not only on its design, but also on how well it is maintained, the quality of the oil and fuel used, and the operating conditions. With proper care, this engine should last for at least 150,000 miles. However, the overall lifespan is still uncertain.

3D diagrams of the T24A-FTS vital components
The new 2.4 turbo engine replaced the previous 2-liter 8AR-FTS and primarily appeared under the hood of FF-platform crossovers starting with the 2nd gen Lexus NX. But the main mission, as it turned out, was replacing GR-series V6 engines in full-size crossovers and SUVs. Although technical affinity with A25 engine seems obvious, the differences are much more fundamental than just a crankshaft or turbine... let's take a closer look.

You can use almost anything you want. You could use euro 0/5w-30 but a thin pcmo 30 would be fine. This is something I'd use. I'd trust 30 to help with turbo bearing, chain, and cam phaser life in the long run. In the short run it doesn't matter 5k with whatever 0w-20 is what I'd use.

any ILSAC GF-6 rated 0W20 will work. I am using PUP 0W-20 that I bought in bulk from previous Amazon prime day.

Factory OCI for this engine is 10K miles, but I did my breakin oil change at 1K and will change the oil every 5K.

is this an owner's manual from a non-US model? Australia?

If it were mine I would run it the same way as I did my Ranger. Synthetic 5W30 at 5000 miles. Especially if you tow with it. I'd just want a little extra protection working it hard.

10K only under certain conditions which many people likely don’t actually fall into I’d bet.
Toyota actually says this when it comes to "special" operating conditions (severe ?):

You should perform these additional maintenance services only if the majority of your driving is done under the special operating conditions indicated. If you only occasionally drive under these circumstances, it is not necessary to perform the additional services.

Emphasis (italics) added by me. More frequent oil/filter changes are NEVER indicated as add'l maintenance, even when they refer to towing, using a roof-top carrier, or "heavy vehicle loading". All they say for those conditions are "Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis and body". They stick to 10k oil changes all the time.

When out of warranty, run Euro oils with MB229.51/52 approvals.

Never? Straight outta our Toyota’s manual. Is there a different recommendation for the T24?

Not true.

Interesting, I looked at the 5k and 10k maintenance and saw "Inspect, inspect, inspect..." and skipped the rest. Oooops. They still say this applies only if the majority of your driving is in those conditions.
Not true.
That's what Lexus says. Toyota is different (and ^^ inconsistent).

Side topic on this engine: Why would Toyota say to replace the spark plugs at only 40k miles (while Lexus says 60k) ? Do they not use Iridium or similar plugs ?
