Synthetic vs. HDEO for cleaning an engine

"I'm sorry but NO type of oil really cleans an engine, IMHO."

Per their posts, there's been several folks in recent months who've seen just the opposite. They've put HDEO in a previously non-HDEO engine and noticed a significant reduction in sludge/varnish within a few months or less. Shouldn't be a surprise considering the TBN for Kendall GT-1 is 6.2, while Rotella's is 11.5 (two representative oils).

Gasoline engines don't create the amount of soot a diesel engine does so they don't need heavy doses of additives since most makers suggest somewhat lower intervals than the 25k intervals cab overs run with huge sumps .

Lower metals in the oil will allow for less friction to an extent and less combustion chamber deposits if anyone has ever read about Redlines true race oils and why they build them the way they do .

BTW , this subject about HDEO's and cleaning has been beat to death here .

Just to clarify

That was about 12 years ago. M1 and dinos are a bit different today. So, YMMV.
