yes, i had a 99 grand cherokee that never leaked, put royal purp in it and it started leaking, changed to mobil dino leak stopped.

Yes it can. I used to say no, as I'd switched multiple higher-mileage vehicles over to synthetic with no problems. I decided to switch my S10 over to M1 from dino, and it started leaking a few thousand miles later. Switched to Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic at the next change, and the leak continued. Switched to PYB for 2 runs, and the leak stopped. Just put in some 10w40 Syntec I got on clearance, and it has started again. So.... in most vehicles, I don't think it matters. But in some, it can cause leaks. My truck is going to be on strictly dino from here on out.

just got SHELL 5w-30 conventional to replace the SHELL 5w-30 synthetic for a few runs to see if it slows or stops . Discovered it's the same small area of sealant for the timing chain cover that leaks on both YARIS . A 2008 with less than 21,000 miles and 2010 at around 6,600 miles . I would post a picture of it , but can't figure out how to do so at the site . Thanks for input .

So it is Toyota that might cause oil leaks in cars what is next???

Syn won't do it, not in my experience.

I switched my first Ranger 2.5 to full syn at around 75K miles. It burned a little more than usual during the first couple of changes, then leveled off to the same amount of oil burning as before (2 qt in 5000 miles or so). No leaks period.

I switched Ranger #2, a 3.0, to full syn at 86K miles. It did the same thing, burning a little more during the first change, then leveling off and only burning 2 qt in 5000 miles or so. It does have a very light film around the rear main seal, but that's typical on 3.0s and it was like that on dino (the film was there when I got it at 49K miles). Aside from the light film, it has no leaks at 97K miles.
