I would appreciate recommendations any of you may have for a full synthetic, API certified, 5w-30 weight oil for use in 2005 PT Cruiser 2.4l (non-turbo).

Thanx,

how long are you planning on going between oil changes. i personally am sticking with 5000 mile oci until the warrenty is up on my 04 neon. for that interval any synthetic will be good. mobil 1, castrol, pennzoil, etc. the only issue i have with castrol (except for gc 0w30) is that it is a group III and it is the same price as mobil 1 which is a group IV.

An Issue with group III Castrol?
Even if it works as well as Mobil 1 if not better during the 5K interval?

Schaeffer's 7000 Blend 5w-30 with LC worked really well in a PT Cruisier:

It's hard to beat Schaeffer's for $3/qt when you can run it out to the maximum 6000 miles allowed by warranty, in most cases.

i just dont think that the castrol should be the same price as mobil 1 when its a hydrocracked group III. thats all. as far as whether it would protect for 5000 miles, im sure it would. but im not going to buy it, unless there is a huger sale to bring it below $4/qt (price per qt of M1 in the 5 qt jug)

Todays hydrocracked oils are nearly as good as the PAO based ones.
Yes, Group III costs less to produce. So what?
Good for Castrol and its engineers.
Also the company has "redeemed" itself, at least in my eyes, by bringing to the US the excellent Syntec 0w30.
And at the super bargain price of $3.99 qt when on sale which is right now.

Thank you all for your comments. I decided to use pennzoil platinum starting tommorow at 360 miles.
We will see how it does. I will try to post some analysis results in the future.

Thanx,
Sundagger
