I have a 1997 Damon rv, 36', 460 Ford with the E4od transmission. The manual specifies Mercon atf and I would like to start using a synthetic atf in the transmission. Will any synthetic atf that is compatible with any Mercon requirements work here? The transmission in these rv's run hard and hot and anything I can do for it, within reason, makes sense to me.

Amsoil Signature series multi vehicle is good stuff. Maxlife dex/merc is suitable for many applications also and what i use myself in my passanger car.

If the temperatures are high, consider a trans cooler.

Maxlife was shown to not actually be full synth per their own MSDS.

Mobil1 ATF would also work but it's $10/qt

Mercon V is a synthetic transmission fluid, and available almost anywhere. Doesn't have to be any specific brand. I used to use Walmart /Supertech Mercon V.

Second the suggestion to use a large transmission cooler if it doesn't already have one.

If it already has both, just make sure you change the fluid frequently (every 30k).

Any TES-295 will work well.

Amsoil, Redline, RoyalPurple, Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil1, Torco, Neo.. all make excellent ATF, as do most of the synth brands. Any stating Mercon or Mercon V can be used.

Mercon V isn't a full synthetic unless it says so on the bottle. Most are blends.
