"I have received the results of the testing by Staveley Fluids Analysis performed for SynLube.

In general, everything tested normal except for copper and silicon which had readings of 44 and 40 respectively. The report indicates that this is probably associated with normal engine break-in. As of this time, my engine seems to run just fine and my current 4-tank MPG average is 20.4 which is high for a 4.0L V-6 Ranger that's primarily driven in city/suburban light traffic conditions.

The oil has 15.3K on it. During this time only 4 oz. of oil was consumed and it was replaced by 4 oz. of Service Fill.

Here are the other readings:

well, there must be atleast one car sacrificed for the purpose of science. im not saying that the engine will be damaged but it will still be an experiment none the less using this oil. if you really are using this oil, and are going to follow their schedual to the letter, please, please keep us updated with the progress of this.

that is some thick oil. the tbn looks pretty low for only having 15000 miles on the oil. i would hope that the service fill or what ever the top off stuff is would have a serious dose of tbn in it.

That takes some serious faith. There's a reason that oil gets changed. Everything has its comprimise to work in automotive engineering. Imagine a set of tires that never needs replacement - they'd be made of metal with poor traction and comfort, now what would the compromise for oil that never needs changing? I sure wouldn't want to find out.

I went to the Synlube web site and they don't have any listing of MSDSs, which I thought was required. They also talk about three colloids as part of the lube, is this just another mask term for teflon? maybe graphite? Sigh.......
 
Ha, check this out from the Synlube site, under the product information for the motor oil.

Apparently it allows for engine cranking at -500F, and the 'thermally stable' lubricants are good from -650F to 5000F.

It should be noted that absolute zero temperature, the temperature at which all molecular motion stops (meaning you can't get colder than this), is -459.67F. Natural gas burns in air at about 4000F.

Calling this stuff 'snake oil' is putting it mildly, methinks.
 
Well, I'm not planning to make myself a Synlube test subject any time soon, but on the other hand, there was once a time when the idea that the world wasn't flat received similarly frosty reception from those "in the know".

Well, aside from the TBN ..it's not great by BITOG standards ..but by Amsoil standards (or their alleged lab analysis rhetoric) ..it's not bad.

Suppose the same exact (or near) results are found at the next interval? Suppose this oil has a seating event much like RL where the vitamin pack is so intense that it bonds rather agressively??

Now I won't buy the stuff and I doubt that 150-300k is possible on any current oil at any price....but in the interest of keeping an open mind .....

At the time of the original post he was not. And as far as I know, he is just a member of BITOG with no sales interests.
 
'Splain this, though: my friend Tim works for the railroad and tells me those big two-stroke EMD diesels from GM never get an oil change. Says they hold almost 300 gallons and it stinks to high heaven. He would know, too. He dropped a timing gear into the sump and had to fish it out wearing a garbage bag on his arm.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not advocating trying that with a car and wouldn't/won't myself. I'm already breaking family tradition with Mobil 1 and 10,000 mile OCIs. :-)
 
Looking at the warranty page http://www.synlube.com/serv01.htm it reminds me of the "lifetime muffler" guarantee:

- This Warranty is void if at the time you applied for this Warranty, your vehicle had in excess of 7,500 miles on its odometer or the vehicle had been in use longer than six (6) months, or if any information provided in the Warranty application was untrue.

...

Each time SynLube Lubricant is used in your vehicle you must mail within ten (10) days a warranty validation card to SynLube, Inc. The card must clearly show the mileage of the vehicle and the date and amount and type of SynLube Lubricant used.
 
After looking at those numbers, my $10 botique oil puts that stuff to shame. And I thought that I had a free wallet economy to lubricants...
