switching oils question/advice

Energy conserving oil is a joke anyways... What are you going to save $0.50 in fuel once a month?

I use AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 in the winter in my truck because I have lifter-tick with anything else that doesn't flow as well as SSO does in the winter.

Agreed. Ive read on BITOG many times that the savings from energy conserving mixes are not that much at all. I'd go back to what you had the most luck with the Max Life!

Definitely go back with the Maxlife. It`s what worked for you.

Maxlife is a very thick oil for its weight, thats why people tend to get a few less MPG's running the Maxlife than WhiteBottle, Synpower or Durablend.

The piston slap probably subsided noise wise due to the properties of MaxLife's composition, which differs from its brethren. Use what work's, go back to the MaxLife, energy conserving means nothing when you want peace of mind!

well, maybe its not piston slap i have, it sounds just like a rod knocking REALLY bad, (you can hear from inside the house) but it has never lasted more then 1 whole second

sounds to me more like the oil filter`s anti drain back valve isnt working.

i dont think thats it. the 2 knock-free OCIs with maxlife used an ac delco filter, then a wix filter. im using a wix again this time. i wholeheartedly believe its something to do with the oil

That's not true! People get less MPG's because it's not an Energy Conserving oil. Maxlife is roughly the same viscosity as it's white bottle cousin. In fact, the white bottle 10W40 is actually slightly thicker than 10W40 Maxlife.
