Ford puts a shorter 3.55 rear drive axle on with the 2.7 vs 3.31 rear drive with the 3.5...that is more likely to be the difference in the "little snappier" feeling.

Very possibly, especially considering Ford is sticking with the 6 speed auto. Now if they did something like RAM did and go to the 8 speed, the differences in axle ratio that small would hardly be noticeable until you hit the final gear........in real world driving. According to RAM, a 3.21 8 speed vs. a 3.55 8 speed nets 2000lbs more towing, while it should net more I for one just do no buy its that big of a difference when all things are considered, especially since hardly any of the manufacturers are held to some kind of standard. I have driven both ratios in the RAM, you don't notice any difference until 7 and 8 gear. That's it. Now with Fords 6 speed, you might but that is still a very small ratio difference that you mentioned.

Just a FYI.
Ford put 3:73, 3:55 and 3:31 in Ecoboost powered trucks.

My 3.5 has 3:55 and 20" wheels... it is a 4X4 also.

For the Subaru H6 Castrol lists them the same way.
First preference Magnatec
Second Edge
Third. GTX

Maybe they know something and are not just pushing the latest.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the long timing chain in the Nissan VQ40DE V6 and the fact that they have a tendency to make a fair amount of start up noise after sitting overnight?

I have the same V6 in my Pathfinder and my current fill is 5w30 Magnatec and I must say I am getting little if any start up noise running it. This is the first time I have seen an oil make a difference on this engine in 45,000 miles. I plan to run it for around 5,000 miles and do a used oil analysis to see how it looks I will post the results.
