Switched contents in box

I was at Walmart just looking through some boxes to see the construction of some filters and checking if maybe the cap wrench on the shelf would also fit them. Lo and behold, I saw a Fram OCOD in an equivalent ToughGuard box. I seen this before, where someone would probably switch the contents, even while the cameras are running.

I'm not sure about every state, but where I live this is equivalent to shoplifting.

Anyone ever end up with the wrong filter because someone switched it with something else? I think this might also apply to air filters or anything else without a factory sealed box.

I wouldnt even try that. Id rather pay the extra few bucks than get a record. It just isnt worth it. I do open and check to make sure the correct filter is in the box though.

I always check the filter before I buy it. That one I bought that didn't have the gasket a long time ago taught me that. I have not seen a wrong filter in a box and no way would I consider switching something to save a couple bucks.

Same here, except for me it looked like I had bought a used filter. So every filter I buy gets opened before I go to the counter.

I had an employee at AAP open the box when I return a filter last time, I knew why after seeing stuff like this at Walmart but felt compelled to ask what type of issues they have with returns, I got a couple of good stories about attempted returns of used filters

.

It does amount to shoplifting, but for a $2 price difference between the OCOD and TG, it's minimal risk to the thieves, who probably know Walmart isn't going to go out of their way to have someone prosecuted over this.

It's theft, no matter where you live.

If possible, always check contents before purchasing...and report misboxed items.

aT THE Walmart Supercenter near me, I saw a couple bottles of Supertech Syn in the clear Qt bottles that had clearly been emptied and refilled with used oil. Now thats a nasty and bold move.

I went into Walmart on a hot July day and picked up a foam cooler and 25 rolls of frozen turkey (for dogs). Went to checkout and told the checkout girl a cooler and 25 rolls of turkey and handed her a single roll to scan. Finished the sale and was waiting around for my wife with the cooler in the shopping cart.

When I went outside someone put their hand on my shoulder and asked what was in the cooler. Never said he was store security. Had a manger standing next to him. I said frozen turkey. He looked at the sales slip and inside the cooler and said "oh, frozen turkey".

I should have asked who he was and his name and to not touch me. He did not handle things in a professional manner at all.

Should have contacted corp. in Bentonville.

After I got home I realized they never charged me for the cooler and the security guy was not smart enough to see that.

Typical Walmart thing. It's definitely shoplifting. I ALWAYS inspect any filter (and any thing I buy) carefully before buying.

I bought a music CD once from Walmart and when I got home realized I already had it so went to return it - never even opened it, but the clear seal was a little battered, but it obvious it was never opened. Wow, the gal at the return desk almost took a magnifying glass out to look at the seal ... she claimed that people would someone open them up and then reseal them somehow to look like they've never been opened. So why aren't they that critical about returned used oil filters and used oil?

Im definitely not one to support WM, but this isnt just a WM thing. I remember back when I was four or five (mid 80's) before WM had any presence in a 400+ mile radius, that people would do this with sneakers in K-mart.

People or poor and lacking character hve always existed. IMO it is more of an issue that the lack of charactr causes them to be of low means as well, and thus have to shop (and steal) from such stores.

Home Depot is notorious for this... Dead light bulbs in boxes , water in paint cans ,dead tools swapped out. I've personally been witness to these three.

When I worked for Sunglass Hut, people would often try to swipe the real Oakleys and put fake ones in their place. So no, it's not just a Wal-mart thing.

I see that alll the time at Walmart

I will see a Distance Plus plastic box with a PUROLATOR CLASSIC in it and Im sure the person put that Distance plus in the Purolator box and then just went to the automatic checkout where you slide your stuff under the scanner and pay

However I always show the manager and he says they just mark it as spoilage or something

but can you just think how DUMB someoen has to be to do that?

Just think they get caught.. they go to jail and they are in the bull pen with other criminals and 1 guys says Im here for stealing a car and another guys says Im here b.c I robbed some store and they say what you in for and the person says,, Ohh Im here b.c I took a cheap oil filter box and put a expensive oil filter in the box in the attempt to save 4$
