Switch to Synthetic

Live in Cleveland and winter and the cold weather are quickly approaching. Have a Jeep with a 3.7 and usually run Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 conventional (4000 oci). Was contemplating whether it would be beneficial to switch to a synthetic for the winter months.

Any thoughts on whether this would be beneficial or not for the cold. Any opinion on whether switching to a synthetic would be harmful to the engine (all the causes leaks, ect rumors out there).......any advice..........thanks in advance.

For a few days when it gets REALLY cold where you are located, there may be a benefit with full synthetic.
But not worth changing to, overall.

Leaks? Probably not. But it can happen tied in with other reasons.

Normally I would say synthetic would flow better in the cold weather but when you are already using 5W20 I don't see any reason to switch.

PYB might as well be a semi-synthetic anyway. The whole synthetic causes leaks was before Group III oils became common in synthetics. Use them interchangably.

Did you want to have longer service intervals? That's one of the main benefit of Synthetics

I dont think you get quite the cold in Clevland as we do here.

Also, Pennzoil conventional has probably the best cold pour properties of any conventional oil.

I run 10w30 in the 4.0, so I run synthetic. If I were you with the V6, I would do exactly as you're doing now!

As far as leaks, I wouldnt worry too much about it if you did decside to switch.

You have the newer motor in your Jeep, even in the 4.0 I haven;t heard of any excessive leaking, from myself or others

Jeeps leak...its what makes them happy.
