Suspension clunk Lexus ES350

Ok..the roads here are severely frost heaved from the mega cold temps over the past 3-4 weeks. The wife's car developed this clunking noise in the rear suspension area whenever you would drive over a small bump. My first guess...broken stabilizer link.(this happened 3 years ago and was a similar noise).

So today it is above freezing...I clean the garage floor of all the salt and road dirt and then jack up the car and remove the rear wheels and inspect the rear suspension. result: NOTHING

So after reassembling everything it occurs to me that maybe something is rolling around in the trunk. Open the trunk...NOTHING

Then I remember stowing a tow strap in the spare tire well that has big metal hooks. So, I lift the cover and wrap the metal hooks in a towel. Test drive result... NO MORE CLUNK

Well at least the "repair" didn't cost you anything... well except a towel.

Glad to hear that there were no repairs needed. I, on the other hand, do have a bad end link up front. I don't know of any tow hooks I left up there, but I'll check...

The trunk can be a huge source of frustration, I get that. When I was 16 I bought an Escort Zx2 with keyless entry. Somehow, the day I bought it, one of the key fobs went missing. I found it about 2 years later the day I sold the car in, you guessed it, the trunk.
