The 2.3 is a "green" engine that became standard in late 2003 in "green" states..and was an option later on. It is a great engine! Quiet, good power, quiet etc.! With rebates 2.3 PZEV is bargain pocket rocket for 2004.
BTW Car and Driver lists Focus Top in Class (4 or 5 years in a row) also Consumer Reports rates it tops also (always rated the highest in tests except in reliabilty). Now they can recommend it as reliablity is up to snuff!!!!!!!
Ford in 2005 replaces the Zetec 2.0 and SPI 2.0 with the Duratec line.
