During the next oil change I was thinking about trying the Supertech oil filter in wife's vehicle (1998 Infinity QX4) are these filters considered decent?

Thanks

yes. search around a little and you will find a lot of people like them and use them without any problems.

sxg6,

I looked at the filter. Seems constructed well, and the price is really reasonable.

Thanks

The Supertech's are fine, but I personally like the Motorcrafts that WalMart sells better. They are about $1.25 more but they are made with Purolator media and don't have the dome bypass.

With that said, I used the Supertech's for a long time before I started experimenting with (and probably overthinking) my filter decisions, and never had a problem with one.

Thanks jeepman,

Only problem is I don't believe there is a MC oil filter at Walmart to fit the wife's 1998 Infinity QX4. I do use the MC Power Stroke #1995 in my 2002 7.3 diesel.

According to the Purolator site, you need an L14610 for the QX4. The Motorcraft interchange guide shows that the FL2007 is the equivilent to the Purolator filter. I don't know if Wally's has the FL2007, but you may want to check the next time you are in there (if you can stand the orange glow around you in that aisle

).

Good luck at WM. If its like mine they have
now one small corner divided equally between
a few common MC and ST and the rest are misplaced or out of stock.

ST is "adequate", but why not spend the extra buck and a half on your Infinity and get a Wix or Purolator? You using the ST oil, too?

Assuming of course you can find the ST, even Wally World is really trimming out the space devoted to EVERYTHING not in an orange box.

toocrazy2yoo,

I am using Pennzoil 10w30. The Infinity has 80,500 and is in great shape. The maintance has always been performed on or before needed (I mean all required maintance no just oil /oil filter changes). I have read that the ST oil filters are made by Champion Labs and are supposed to be a decent filter.

They are..

Others just want you to use what they use..

I had two excellent oil analysis with the Super Tech. I decided to spend and extra buck or so and went to STP instead. Just to see the difference.

The particle counts with Super Tech were fine.

ST filters are a banging bargain ..as are MC filters if you can get them at Wally World for $3.28. I just cannot resist the urge to pick up one or two at every visit (a total of 6 cars in the extended family fleet that all have the same thread/gasket size = I'm never far from some oil/filter change). I haven't had the opportunity to cut open any of my Ecore® ST filters yet ..but had flawless service with the old style. I'll have to add that I also use PureOne, MC, and, in some cases, Wix filters. Anything but a Fram ..they just cost too much for what you get IMO. They appear to work okay for most ..but just too many better bangs for the bucks out there.

If you have common service and want to go "long" ..then you may opt for something like a PureOne. If you're of the more moderate mileage accumulations and cannot resist changing oil often ..then there is no need to waste the cash on better filters IMHO. OTOH, if you have service like Mel (Filter Guy) and rack up miles like you do calories in the day ...then any filter will probably work with the lack of insult that this type of driving inflicts upon a filter.

whats the matter with infinity filters? You own an expensive vehicle - why not be a purist?

Or, at least investigate why nissan/infnity filters may/may not be better...

Id suggest you look into denso first time fit filters, personally. Maybe not available at wal-mart, but theyre really good in our toyota and mitsubishi applications.

Purolator pure one IMO is an exellent filter, worth spending an extra adolar or two for.

My definition of "better" is threaded-end by-pass and silicone ADBV.

What Supertech filters have those?
dunno.gif

In this case, I believe brains & money equals "better".

Your right Infinity/Nissan filters are the same (even the blue color)I have always used the Nissan filter on the 98 Infinity QX4. Just wanted to try the ST. The QX4 has 80,000 on the odometer, runs great, always ensured all required factory service was completed on or before required date/time. I would say 99.9% of the service was done at the dealer. Many have said it looks great for a 98.Although the warranty is long gone, the vehicle is solid.

hey if spending 2 to 3 times the price for a "better filter" that does the same job is your bag then so be it, ill stick with $2 supertech filters... anyone hear of ST adbv failures? anyone? heeeelllloooo ?
