I recently did 3 tranny services on these all of which totaled 13 qts each. I noticed the walmarts only had less then 10 each time, so it requires 2-3 differnt store visits to get enought. That right there frys me. I complained and they just blamed it on their supplier like they themselves were not at fault. ABSOLUTLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fluid itself smells extremely strong like detergent, and the dye package is very weak. I notice the trannys shift well on it, compared to its previous worn out fluid. The problem is, if the exisiting fluid is discolored, the light dye package in this new fluid somtimes will not overcome the brown color left in the tranny. Also I wonder how long this fluid will hold up. Warren has been known to make decent stuff, but nobody has ever raved about long drains with thier engine oils.

Advance auto in store brand mercon V and autozones brand they used to carry did not hold up well at all. Maybe 7k and it was brown. It was made by coastal unilube which I beleive is now warren unilube and is NOT the same as warren performance products. My pennzoil I have 11k on it now and it is still cherry red.

Anyone have any real experiance with this supertech now that it is a little more available?

As long as it is a licensed Mercon-V fluid, the performance will be very similar. There may be some differences in the dye from brand to brand.

The color doesn't give you a good indicator of the fluid's condition. Some brands may turn brown more quickly than others and this may be a result of differences in dye or the fluid suspending the clutch material. You didn't mention if the Advanced Auto and Pennzoil branded Mercon V fluids were both used in the same car, under the same driving conditions.

It was the same car under the same type of driving. The fluid not only looked brown, but it no longer smelled good at all. Smelled like it was stale only after like 7-8k. My yellow bottle pennzoil back when walmart sold it, is still fresh as it was out of the bottle at 11k. Tranny cooler is functional and flows fine as I have felt the core of it several times and it is hot.

As for running an extra qt thru it is not an option. I do flush the cooler and drain the pan, and the torque converter. Out of the 13qt capacity, I usually can get 12qts into it and the other is wasted to flush the cooler.

I hope this supertech is better than the autozone or advance auto brand.

With only 10 Qts per store, you would have needed 4 trips to get enough [3 X 13], not a curiously vague 2-3 trips.

But if the fluid is Merc V rated, then is meets those requirements.

The lack of sufficient in-store quantity is what caused me to get Valvoline synthetic Mercon V from Checker Auto instead. At the time, it only cost me 2 cents more per quart.

The Warren-packaged Supertech is a licensed semi-syn Mercon V. It should perform as well as any other non-full syn ATF. My local Wallyworld has it for 3.44/qt and had about 30 bottles on the shelf.

I would be curious who the bulk supplier is for Warren. They list Texaco and Pennzoil Mercon V products on thier MSDS search.

I won’t mess with Supertech ATF, knowing that WM pressure their suppliers for the lowest possible price. To get to that price point, their suppliers are providing them with lower quality products. Pay the extra 30 Cents to a dollar and get a brand name ATF, and you you don't have to worry about their sub par customer service.

This was spanned over 2 months. I did not do all 3 trannys at once.

Also very unfortunate for me, Valvoline merc V is close to $7 per qt, castrol is in the mid $5 per qt, and AAP is low $4, and walmart being mid $3. I have very little choices.

Honestly, I have found the ford dealer (surprisingly) to be the cheapest on the merconV fluid, and you can order as many quarts of it as you want.

The Motorcraft fluid is a fine conoco phillips product..

They were cheaper than walmart for the last Ford that I was servicing..

I haven't owned a ford in a few years, but there is a part number for the 12 quart case, and a part number for the quart. The case was quite cheap, call the dealer and see if they can give you a jobber rate.

Off the top of my head, I was paying 2.49 per quart..

I was servicing two trucks and one thunderbird all with that 4r70w transmission that takes a ton of fluid.
