SuperTech Filter #. Please help.

Hi guys,

Can anyone give me Supertech filter number cross referenced to Purolator L14610 or Baldwin B1402. It's for 1996 Kia Sportage 2.0 DOHC. It has the same engine as Mazda 626 2.0. I bought Supertech filter by catalog and it seems much smaller than I was using K&N 1006. It seems that they were making 2 versions of the filter short and long version.

Yes, the 7317 is the direct match to the 14610. Common oversize filters that will interchange with this are the 3593A and 3985. You just have to check for clearance as these filters are significantly larger (and in the case of the 3985, the gasket diameter is larger, so you have to check the mating surface for proper fit).

In ST I have been told ST 2808 which is much fatter. I know this one works. The other is ST 3950.

I don't think 7317 is a ST# Its a Fram # and it is correct (for Fram)

Aldo K&N HP 1010 and Mobil M1-110.

I have been told that supertech shares the fram part numbers......If that is true, then it should be a ST-5343 for stock.....ST-7317 should be a match for a L14610 though.

FYI, I have a Supertech 7317 filter in my garage right now. I believe Supertech and Fram share all model numbers. I know in some stores where both are carried, they may have a filter model in one but not the other (like the 3985, which my WalMart only carries in Fram).

The ST2808 has been discontinued. Champion Labs states that the ST3593a is its direct replacement. Physically, the ST3593a is the same diameter and about 3/8" longer than the discontinued ST2808 and uses a leafspring type bypass valve.

I also have a Sporty (2002)....the right Super Tech filter is the ST-6607. It is about 3/4 the length of the "right filter" (every other company). It's one of those cases where Super Tech combined applications (it covers what the PH-5343 and PH-6607 covers) into one filter. If they made an ST-5343, that would be the "right" size. But they don't..........

I've used the ST-6607, it seemed to work fine (which just means it fit and didn't leak, came off later and was full of oil)......not sure about media size, etc......

I have chopped open enough filters to know the exterior size has little to do with the filter area inside. ST isn't too bad. I would go with an ST over a bigger Fram.

A still longer replacement for the 3593a would be whatever crosses to a Purolator 24458. We have too many Subarus to count and they take Purolator 14460 (3593a) but I've found the 24458 has the same threads AND the same bypass specs, but is longer.

I just plugged L24458 into Fram's XRef on their website and it came up with 3593A.

I guess that Fram isn't listing the 3807 as the 24458 anymore.

You can use any of the major oil filter websites/catalogues to xreference these numbers to your brand if available.

Using wixfilters.com, crossreferencing fram or stp:

3985=wix 51626
3.8" x 3.6", 8-11 bypass

3950=wix 51381
3.1" x 3.6", 13-19 bypass

3593a=wix 51334 (no stp yet)
3.1" x 3.2", 8-11 bypass
2808=wix 51334 (no fram)
3.1" x 3.2", 8-11 bypass (2808/3593=same????)

6607=wix 51365
2.5" x 2.6", 8-11 bypass

7317=wix 51356 (no stp)
3.4" x 2.6", 8-11 bypass

I went to Wal*Mart tonight to pick up oil filter for my 2000 Honda Civic Si. The 2002 catalog said use a fram PH3593A or Super Tech Super Tech2808. The 2003 catalog calls for Fram STP3593A or SuperTech Super Tech3593A. They had 2 of each on the supertechs on the shelf. I took the Super Tech3593A.

I made this decision that the manufacturer made it more like the 3593A numbering series which is used by a variety of manufacturers and therefor might be a better match for my engine. In addition, it is a small amount larger which I guess is better than smaller.

I am thinking you are right that the Super Tech2808 is phased out. It was on a different shelf along with other odd things. No mark down on price though. These Super Tech filters must not move if these are still laying around.

It has been posted that st-3950 can be used as an oversized filter for st-3593a.

This was in a Honda application.

OK, here's what I've gathered.

M1-110 = K&N HP1010 = Fram 7317. SuperTech options for this size are:
ST 2808 = Direct replacment, but discontinued.
ST 3593A= Replacment for ST2808, but slightly larger (3/8 longer).
ST 3985 = Oversize replacment, but has a larger gasket and may not fit.
ST 3950 = Oversize?

I guess the ST 3539A sounds like the best replacment, especially because it's slightly oversized.

My stock Acura filter size is the 7317, but my local auto stores only carry the larger 3593A in the filter model I want. Both share the same thread size, by-pass PSI and gasket size and I beleive the 3593A is only about 13% larger.

Will I be ok going with this slightly oversize? Never done this before, kinda worried. Thx.

Use the ST 3593a. THey are good filters. They replaced the ST 2808 which were a bit smaller. This is probably the difference you are seeing.

It's the same as the STP or AC delco filter.
