Baldwin, SuperTech, Motorcraft, Pure One, or Mobil One?

I have been running a K&N on my Power Stroke, but I have been informed that this is probably not the best filter for this application. I have been reading quite a bit and pricing out quite a few filters. I would like to get some opinions on what everyone thinks I should put on my truck.

I can get a Baldwin for just over $12; a Supertech at Wal-Mart for $6.44; a Motorcraft at Wal-Mart for $9.95; a Purolator at Advance for a little over $8; and a Mobil 1 at Autozone in a different town for I don't know how much. I priced out the NAPA filters and they want to much for those, therefore I have already ruled them out. Please help me decide which one I should go with.

Buy a supertech and cut it open.I would pick the oil filter by the mileage between oil changes .The longer the oil change interval the better the filter, Mobil 1 filters show good results with particle count tests.

I used nothing but Motorcraft FL1995 filters in my '97 F350 Powerstroke for years (recently sold the truck).

I can't see any reason to buy any other filter. The Moaft filter is build as good as the best of them.

While yourtorcrafts are very easy to get (Walmart and Advance Auto), the price is fair ($9.95) and the Motorcr at it grab some Motorcraft 15W40

Use the supertech and see how you like it, if you do end up liking it you'll save money using it in the future, otherwise go with the motorcraft.

so- what was wrong with the K&N filter? You have me worried because I just put a K&N on one of my cars with Mobil 1 Extended Performance to start doing extended drains with. is there something about the K&N I should know about?

the thing that bothered me- on the K&N box- it said, I think, 70% efficiancy. where almost every other filter I see is 96% or better, what gives? does it matter? (heck, even the supertecks are claiming 99%).

tylerb, why are the filters so much money at your Wal-Mart and at Advance Auto?

mdocod, K&N oil filters are designed more for flow than filtration. Although a good filter, they're designed for race applications where large debris is of concern more than small particles. Race engines are rebuilt often. If you take your street machine to the track every now and again, a K&N is great but IMHO not for everyday use.

I would go with the Motorcraft first, but you could save the extra dollar and get the Purolator, as I believe they are one and the same.

don't rip it out. its not going to hurt your engine. leave it in until the next oil change. why waste $12 on a perfectly good filter?

as it clogs it will filter better, which you would want for an extended drain anyways.
