Thinking about running some Supertech Euro 5w40 in my 2018 Ford 3.5L EcoBoost. Noticed that it's only SN rated and not resource conserving. Any possible issues? Currently run Supertech 5w30 high mileage synthetic or just regular Supertech Synthetic 5w30, whatever happens to be on the shelf.

Don't those engines have variable displacement pumps so you'll only be making the pump work harder with no benefit, just change every 3k and you'll be golden

Run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0W40 or Mobil 1 ESP 0W30.
Far, FAR better oils.

I consider a Euro Xw30 or Xw40 ideal for an out of warranty EcoBoost. You will spend about as much on a name brand oil as a single tank of gas, so I’d upgrade from SuperTech. If you must save a buck Quaker State Euro 5w40 is great. Been running that in our NA 3.5 for nearly 60k now and won’t be changing anytime soon.

St euro isn't bad but if better options aren't much more i'd rather get them. How much is that shell made motomaster euro. I think i'd rather get that.

I go with Castrol, Mobil 1 or Valvoline...whichever is the cheapest. I think the SuperTech version is 0w40...they dont make a 5w40 and its API SN. You want at least API SP.

I have a 3.5 Eco.

Personal view- It is a pretty solid motor, but it has a few things that can go badly due to lube and filter and get crazy expensive/destructive.

1. Cam Phasers...yeah, they "fixed" it in 21, but the design is still basically based on oil pressure actuating the cam phasers. If that oil pressure is slow, as it is on startup, those phasers are unable to completely engage and you get the same basic result of shifting gears while half pushing your clutch-grinding. This also causes wear that causes wobble on those phasers and timing chains being out of alignment which then grind on the chain guides, stretch the chain, and hit the cover plate....all bad. You hear it as rattle on startup.

The new design is somewhat more closed, to retain some oil...but the concept is simply flawed.

However, you can still get a full life out of that setup...so long as you have oil in those phasers to get the pressure high enough to actuate them fully and quickly. That means...you need a super premium oil filter with a 100% functioning anti-drainback valve. If it leaks, even a little...it will leak down and you get that rattle on startup in the morning. The valve is every bit as important as the filtration on this motor.
I tested this on my truck by listening every morning on startup. It only does it on the first startup of the day as oil stays up in the motor after that.

Generally, the Motorcraft FL500S is an ok filter...but I get cam phaser rattle for about 1.5-2 seconds with it. When I switched to a Korean made Mobil 1 filter and Valvoline Restore and Protect...rattle is basically gone or I have to strain to hear it at all.

I get free oil changes from Ford, but they use the FL500S and their Semi-Synthetic 5w30. I get rattle with that setup. When I use the Korean Mobil 1 filter and R and P....rattle is basically gone.

2, Turbo life- The turbo is great, but it has problems with deposits and lube. It is hard on oil and if you go deep on the youtube, the motor has issues with deposit buildup long term. Anything you can do to address that is helpful. I run the Archoil fuel treatment for gas engines a couple times a year...maybe a bottle of Techron now and then. I know its not making it to the Turbo. I don't have a great solution, but it is what it is.

I'm about to do spark plugs...the new ones that have to be torqued to exactly 18lbs in order to orient them to the correct direction via copper crush washer. Should be interesting....

Going on 9 years of edge 0w40 A3/B4 in my 2016 Eco. Changed at 300miles and never waivered. Another 5 years of the same in my 2009 F150 5.4 before that.

Moto Master is $52.99, Castrol is $62.99 Pennzoil is $57.99 and supertech is $28.88
Which MotoMaster? There is always some sae if Motomaster. Don’t go only for 5W40. Motomaster Euro are all repackaged Pennzoil oils. They will be far better than anything Supertech. Get oils that have MB229.5X approvals, regardless of grade.

We have been running a F150 Ecoboost since 2012. Our current 2015 we bought new in 2015. I have used some Pennzoil, some Castrol, but far and away mostly Mobil 1. All oils were the Ford recommended 5W-30 without exception. Never any problems, chain noise, not any issues. I believe the engineers had good reason to recommend 5W-30 and it has worked 14 years for us. YMMV

The Walmarts in Canada only have SuperTech in 5w40

We've used mostly Schaeffer, Royal Purple HPS,PCMO HPL,Torco SR1.

All in 5w30

Ford Escape 2015 with the 1.6 Ecoboost with 112,xxx miles with maybe 1/4 cup oil usage in 5000-6000 mile oil changes.

Run Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. I’m about to make the switch in my Fiesta ST. It’s only $27 at Walmart and it’s one of the best oils on the market right now, if not the best.

mobil 1 0w40 is on sale now at crappy tire for $37.99, plus a few dollars off with their rewards points. $4 off purchase over $40 so grab a filter while you're at it, remember to activate those offers on the app.

Sometimes walmart has Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 on sale for $34.99, year round it's $37.99. Can't believe CT is charging $57.99 now, hopefully WM doesn't raise it's prices too.

As for motomaster, this guy has done many VOA's. One for 5w40 and 0w30

They're thought to be rebottled Pennzoil Platinum Euro, but the MotoMaster 5w40 looks low on boron, while the 0w30 differs from other Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0w30 VOA's in a few regards. Should be loaded with boron and higher cst for a VW504 oil.

Not sure what to make of it now.
