Supertech 5w40 thoughts?

My Dad just purchased a 2012 Passat 2.5 recently and it's going to need an oil change soon... All the receipts with the car shows they always ran a 5w40 in the car. Now I see Walmart here locally has a Euro 5w40... Was wondering if it's any good. Plan on doing 8000kms oil changes and using a Mann or hengst filter in it... Or maybe even a carquest premium.
I know people have said here before the supertech has some good oils but never seen much about the Euro 5w40... Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated!

I'd use it given that it's substantially cheaper than most other euro oils up there and yeah sure it's not officially licensed but it's still ok given how long its existed without reported issues. Some on here will call it triax since it has no licenses but I've never heard of issues with it unlike with triax. Besides those old 2.5's aren't hard on oil and if its changed frequently it'll be fine. But try to look for euro oil on sale at. More importantly change the transmission, brake, and coolant as those are likely all factory fill.

Can you get the Quaker State Euro 5w-40 at Walmart or Crappy Tire? Its super cheap at Walmart in the states...only $22.97 usd for the 5 quart jug.
I'd stick with Mann, Hengst or Mahle for oil filters...that is all I use in my BMWs for decades.

It needs to be closer to $18 to be a seller. It's a fine oil but not when it's the same as premium brands

I may have to try it. For my older Audi finding Castrol or Mobil 1 5w40 is becoming a challenge. A few places I've gone have quit shelving it, even one of my area Walmarts. Found it at another one and I now have enough oil for 2-3 yrs.
BTW, I changed our older non-ecoboost 3.5 Ford to using 5w40, no issues but sadly after several years we had an ABS issue that involved discontinued parts, traded it away.

SuperTech is usually a bargain, but not the 5W40 flavor. It cost the same or more than name brand oils in that viscosity (in America. No idea of Canadian prices)

Id bypass it in America and pick a name brand.

Have you seen an actual Triax oil failure?

I can say that I have not. But then again I don’t know anyone that’s ever used it.

With how goofy and inaccurate some of their PDS sheets are with multiple and conflicting “suitable for” listings are I’d steer clear. That’s not a good sign for a competent company that knows what the heck they’re doing. I can get an oil with actual approvals at Walmart for a decent price.
