supertech 5w30 synthetic or tropartic 5w30 blend?

I have a 2004 GMC Yukon with 177,000 miles. No problems and not burning oil. currently running Mobil 1 5w30 with a Mobil 1 filter. Picked up a ton of Purolator classic filters and also have a number of Mobil 1 filters. current oil changes are 6,500-8,000. thinking about running 5-6,000 mile changes and using one of the two oils above and purolator classic.

thoughts? or should I stay with Mobil 1?

With such a short OCI. Use what is easier and cheaper for you to obtain.

trop artic is $26 for a case of 12 @ sams. my truck uses 6 qt so . . . thats $13 a change before tax. add in some $2 puro classic filters and approx. a hair under $17 w tax. or approx. $22 using supertech

Since your truck has already run synthetic with no leakage issues, I'd run SuperTech and keep your OCI's long, just like M1. You could probably go 10k depending on your driving. TropArtic is good also for shorter intervals, but if your driving is easy highway type, even that could probably go 10k and beyond.

I've used both, both are quality oils but if you have Trop Artic available to you at competitive pricing it would definitely be my pick of the two. Excellent lube often at great pricing!

There was a Trop Artic UOA posted on here recently that was over a 10k run, it looked great I was surprised it did so well for so long I have always viewed it as a bargain shorter OCI kind of oil.

Go with the bigger name, Phillips 66. I've used 76 and Kendall synthetic blends for 7 years with no complaints. I can't get TropArtic in my area because it's regional.

I've put quite a few miles on my cars in the last few years with TropArtic oil and I have no complaints whatsover. (I'll admit that I've used a few other brands as well) You've obviously got some Orscheln stores near by so you can snatch it up on the sub-$2/quart sales that they have. I'd give you another vote for TropArtic.
