Supertech 5W-20?

When (and if) do you think there will be a supertech 5W-20? With the amount of cars that now require 5W-20 I would think the lower cost oils would catch on.

No need. No one is going to give them 5w-20 to fit into their $1.38/quart mold for Super Tech oils.

WalMart's prime directive is, "What sells is king" regarding shelf space. When sales of currently carried brands of stocked 5W-20 motor oils tips past some arbitrary number, WalMart's decision makers will respond with a SuperTech variant.

Walmart did carry Havoline 5w20 when it first came out, but due to poor sales they stopped carrying it.

Maybe Walmart decided not to contract to make SuperTech 5w20 cause the other 5w20 brands (Valvoline, Pennzoil, GTX, QS) don't sell that great compaired to 5w30, 10w30 & 10w40.

My Walmart just got 5w20 Formula Shell 2 weeks ago, but I'm sure if it doesn't sell that good.....it won't be on the shelf for long.

Apparently Warren is marketing all of their blends including 5w20 as high mileage oils. Go figure.

I'll correct myself, the 5w20 is billed as new car oil along with the other high mileage blends. Such is marketing. Note that the pour point of the 10w30 is lower than the 5-20 or 5-30. What's that mean unless they're a blending house that picks up different weights from different sources?

Just for your info, in Canada Wal-Mart sells a 5W-20 weight of their Tech 2000 house brand of oil. It IS more expensive than the other weights of T2000 oils by quite a bit ($3.08 vs. $1.78/litre for 5/10W-30), but it is there. I'm suprised U.S Wal-Marts don't have a house brand of 5W-20, considering how popular it is becoming....
