Super Tech 0w40 at US Walmart now

I thought the Euro certs (BMW, Porsche, MB, VW) weren't actually that expensive to get.

Depends on what you define expensive by. The A40 spec IIRC, used to cost like $80,000 to run. But, Walmart wouldn’t pay for that. Whoever the additive company Highline is using for this would. Highline probably decided to say it meets the spec. Most people don’t really know the whole wording legalese. “Meets or exceeds” “recommended for use” “meets recommendations for” isn’t the same as “approved.”

You get it, people here get it.

And I’m by no means saying that oil is bad. Or couldn’t pass those tests. Do not take that from this post. They just went the non approval route. Which, if you’re trying to skinny price down, you have to.

It is not. But can you swing it without it?
Also, what says approved pack is in it? Blender can buy approved pack but ultimately it is up to manufacturer to say: yeah ok, no need to send us samples etc.
Major blenders do it that way.
Smaller? Depends.
I think this is the case of: who cares.

I think that the potential buyer of this should care. Why spend this money on Supertech without approvals when you can get Pennzoil Platinum Euro with all of the approvals for the same price? Or Quaker State Euro for cheaper? That's who cares.

I think people responsible for this product had mindset of: who cares about approval.
They probably made small batch, and they will sell it. ALL of them. I cannot see it in Colorado Springs. But, I bet you some people will buy it in areas where they sell it. They will see it there without checking other oils.
Wal Mart didn’t break any laws. And buyers? I mean, this is actually step up from: “it is full synthetic, it is good.”

I see your point now. I agree.

Age old retailing game. Launch product at high price - give impression of quality - lower price to give impression of deal later.

If they launched at $20 everyone would think its garbage.

Will be same price as 5w-30 by summer. Walmart is always playing price games on oil.
