Super Tech 0w40 at US Walmart now

It is API SN which is better for my older vehicles, dont need SP or SQ. I could not find much on AMSOIL Signature Series for any Euro Certs but it has Dexos, Nissan and a Chrysler, don't believe HPL is nothing more than "Suitable Replacement" and yet these are fantastic oils. I don't care personally if it Meets or is Suitable, its good oil.
Well I'm not trying to convince you. Just pointing out what I've seen. It is a "meets requirements" oil.
Interestingly they rate it lower than all their other oils.
It is $6.98/quart for me. And $26.98/jug. I think you can catch Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0W-40 cheaper, and Quaker State Euro 5W-40 is cheaper year round than this ($23-24).
Again, not trying to talk you out of anything. Just pointing out what I'm seeing.
All good, I am just using it for top-offs as I am out of single quarts of Xw40 right now. I will probably use it for a 6th qt for the truck at next year's OCI, as it's a cheap single qt. Once my 5qts are gone, I will probably go with Havoline's 6qt boxes for convenience.
That also struck me as odd when I turned it over in the store and saw 2-star ratings. Who knows what their marketing is thinking.
No, it only burns when I tow our 10k# camper; otherwise, the loss is minimal. I would consider Valvoline Restore and Protect if they came out (in US) with 10w40, but I don't like running Xw30 when I tow, with this truck or any other truck I have used for towing.

Super Tech and Warren are not listed on the Mercedes official approval list for any oil.
There is a "Super Tec" made in Germany that is not this stuff.

And yet for the sum of $1 more I can buy an oil on the same shelf that has actual approvals. No thanks on this. It may be fine but for 20 cents a quart I prefer the documentation.
They definitely dropped the ball on pricing. I can't imagine it costs them significantly more to make than the other grades.
I actually think it probably does. Using a Euro additive pack, they can't cut corners like they can do on API oils.
That's a question that only a few insiders would have the knowledge to answer. Maybe @Foxtrot08 IIRC; I think he is one of the closest we have to an industry insider (HPL board connections aside). Anyone else would just be making a WAG. I think API Supertech is about $18-19/jug these days.
And even better, if I am willing to wait a day or two I can get Pennzoil Euro L for $26.44.

$17.60 a gallon (everything I do is in gallons) is really, really price for 0w40. But a completely believable price for their scale.
At the end of the day, there’s not a ton of approvals you can easily / quickly get for 0w40. Like the fiat / dodge one - impossible. Dexos R isn’t being licensed to really anyone besides Mobil. So I mean… may as well just play the meets or exceeds game and wing it.
I thought the Euro certs (BMW, Porsche, MB, VW) weren't actually that expensive to get.

There are many small companies that have gotten the approvals, so I believe you are correct.
Then there are those like STP Euro that do the "recommended for" thing. People buy it or it wouldn't be offered on the shelves for so many years. However, we know most of the car owning public doesn't know the difference between recommended, suitable, and the real licensed or approved.
Little addendum; Amsoil has some approvals, has dropped getting MB and BMW approvals, HPL recommends. However, they probably have something in the forumula that wouldn't pass a test. For instance, HPL probably has way too high oxidation from it's ester content for BMW approval.
