during my last trip to KMart I noticed a brand of oil called Super S which replaced whatever bargain stuff they used to have; what intrigued me was the multiple grades of synthetic blend for $2.89/qt (latest SN/G\ILSAC GF-5 variant); I looked on PQIA and the latest Super S analysis was with the previous SM variant); I have no experience with this oil and seeking feedback; thanks

I do not hold a personal high opinion of Smitty's operation. That being said if you are using the Super S for intended purposes that it meets specs for. Then I would not worry about it being your sump.

If it was used in my pickup for a factory recommended OCI I would not lose sleep over it.

Last week it was $1.70

It seems to be good stuff.

I agree, it meets the specs so you know its OK. The specs on the PDS are not impressive though.

What don't you like about Smitty's? All I know is what I've seen on their website and PQIA.

The use of ATF+4 labeling on their recommendation for the use in MOPAR transmissions. Although it is not a ATF+4 licensed product. Fiat could hem up Smitty's and their use of the ATF+4 trademark in their ATF.

ATF+4 is a pretty cut and dry spec. Only a few basestocks and additive supplier can be used for a company to obtain this spec. I doubt Smitty's is using the proper formulation for ATF+4 fluid.

Hey, $8.50 for a 5 quart jug of SN rated synthetic blend oil is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, they had Puro Classics and P1s on sale for $1 - $3.50 each.

Interesting the PDS says that the 10w40 and 20w50 are conventional and not blends, when it says "Synthetic Blend" on the bottles in all grades.

Who cares? Chrysler is being way too childish in their licensing program, and ATF+4 isn't even the top dog spec anymore (it was like 10 years ago) All they need to do is just make a spec and that every ATF that meets it should be allowed to say ATF+4. Maybe if Chrysler wasn't so stupid, perhaps they wouldn't be owned by Fiat now. At least GM is more fair with their Dexron VI licensing
