Super cleaning synth question

There are cleaners and there are lubricants. I want the best lubricant that does not leave dirt behind. A cleaner is something like auto RX. An oil that resist oxidation and can keep contaminants in suspension will leave the engine cleaner than an oil that is less capable of those task. If your engine needs cleaned get an engine cleaner. If your engine nneds a lubricant get a good lubricant. A lubricant that takes up cleaning duties is going to wear out quicker and need to be changed earlier. This is ilustrated for example by the auto rx instructions. If there is actual cleaning going on the oil will load up with solids and need to be changed.

The best way to keep an engine clean is to use a quality lubricant with a rfesponsible OCI for that lubricant. If those parameters are exceeded a cleaning is in order.

Hi Im Army_Guy. 70 miles mixed ROUGH driving, 90k miles, 02 Jeep Wrangler (X) with the 4.0 I6. I want it crystal. Off the rack crystal. No interest in Auto Rx yet... its a tad steep; so, I'll run a couple of 3k OCI's till I'm satisfied, and then put 6 qts. of PP, M1 o-40, Royal Purple, or hark... Motul! I'm hot for Motul now; so I'll see what everyone thinks. But for now, I want to clean it out real good with whatever's easily available off the shelf.

Thanks for asking.

Well, you could try a few short OCI's with PP or Mobil, etc. if you think the ARX is "steep".

No syn oil will get it "crystal" though, if it's pretty dirty. It could help though.Does it have sludge/deposits?

Well, if it's not sludged, etc. I would go with PP, seems to be a good oil.

No problem, that's what I'm going to use in the corolla after this 2nd ARX Rinse. It will be nice running longer OCI's and not have to worry about changing the oil but maybe 2-3 times a year.

If you are not under apparent sludging or dirty engine problems just run the PP. If you are having lifter tick or other dirt issues the auto RX would be more economical than several shorter OCIS with synthetic. Match the treatment to the problem, if you have no problems then just run a good oil.

yeah yeah, I just want to beat EVERY Land Rover I see... I want it in the best shape possible; You know exactly what I mean.
