Do any of you periodically clean and lube your retractable sun roof tracks and wheels? If you do what do you clean with and what do you relube with? I need to do this on my Jag (it sounds dry and "gritty" when I rolled it back for the first time since winter today). Any input is welcome!

Cleaning the tracks and surrounding areas are a good idea as is lubricating any weatherstrips with dieelectric grease, 303 or whatever your choice is. However, I would think the silicone spray would just evaporate away rather quickly. I've noticed the sunroofs we build have a light grease applied and I think that would be a better option to lubricate them.

IMO most important sunroof maintenance is to keep the drains clean such as with compressed air or if really clogged push up something form underneath.

I use dupont krytox for lubrication and for weatherstripping as that stuff takes forever to degrade. It is also good for seals and is the only thing used by VW for the tricky VW EOS retractable hardtop seals. Expensive stuff but nothing better IMO.

My sunroof would make noise while opening. I cleaned it all out with rags and simple green. Then I used a little grease.

The thing is as quiet as a church mouse now.

Every sunroof I have had has had mechanical problems. They were always expensive problems. Which is why I avoid sunroofs now.

Every car I've ever owned had some type of sunroof. Never any problems, but yeah there is always more potential for issues then if you don't have a sunroof.

Saaber - I'm with you on Krytox. All I use too.

I redistribute the old (but still clean!) grease back onto the tracks. And I wipe down the seals with vinyl glop about every year.
