Looking to add some extra gauges to my Duster because I find them interesting to look at and see what's going on.

There's a factory fitted oil temp sensor reporting to the ECU in the oil cooler/filter unit.

I'm looking at options for installing a second sensor and coming up short. The only option I can think of is to drill and tap the aluminium sump.

What is the thoughts on using the sump for oil temp? I've seen mixed results when looking online.

Other options...

1. Piggy back off the ECU oil temp sensor assuming the temp vs resistance scale was the same as the gauge.
2. Get an oil temp gauge that can sit on the can network and pick up the oil temp from the ECU.

back in the day when I rana dyno, we used to stick a mechanical temp gage in the oil drain port and measure oil temps that way when we were running in engines..
Actually would work fine in any engine with a drain plug ..if you can find the correct adapter... you would just remove the sensor when you drain the oil..

That's interesting!

Maybe it's worth hooking up a temporary gauge for a few days to see how the sump temp compares to what the ECU is reporting from it's sensor.
