The only stumbling block is there is no 0-60 yet. Otherwise, to Mickey-mouse with 2 different 30 weights (eg. 0-30 and 10-30) is non-sense IMO. ie. Just use a 0-40 or 5-40.
Well, I have two problems with an oil that claims "all uses for all seasons."
One, I live in a very extreme climate that, last August, had daytime temps of 100 F / 38 C for almost a week. Last month, we reached -42 F / -41 C. I don't know of too many oils that function well at both extremes.
Two, I've noticed some distinct differences in oil consumption running what should be the "same" viscosity synthetic oil. I'll then compare that to a much heavier viscosity I tried in 2001 and will use again this summer.
My vehicle is a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup with the Vortec 5.3 V8. Purchased new:
Mobil 1 0W-30: 1 litre every 6,800km
Mobil 1 10w30: 1 litre every 11,000km
Mobil 1 15W-50: 0 litre over 11,200km
Oddly enough, I use the 10w30 in summer while doing heavy towing (Up to 4,000kg) and hauling. You would think my oil consumption would be much greater in summer, since the motor is under much higher work loads.
Same as when I tried the 15W-50: heavy summer towing and hauling. I was surprised the dipstick never budged from FULL.
I did try to use the 0w30 into summer of 2002, but the motor made a LOT of valvetrain noise at operating temps:

Which drove me bonkers.
Most of that noise goes away running Mobil 1 10w30, and that noise is completely absent running Mobil 1 15W-50. Or should I just ignore the noise and oil consumption??
If I try to use a 10w30 or heavier oil in temps colder than 0 F or -18 C, then I have heavy startup noise:
clackclackclackclackknockknockknockknock
I suppose if I lived in a moderate climate I'd run just one viscosity year round. I don't see how I have that option where I currently live.
Or maybe my motor is possessed? I hope not, it's proving to be otherwise reliable, strong, and relatively fuel efficient.
